>From what I understand, your wiki works fine, except it throws that error. If this is the case, then you can turn off the errors by setting $wgShowSQLErrors=false; in LocalSettings.php. If you use this code, sysops won't have any special permissions. Thus, there will be no type of user allowed to delete pages. For 1.5 mediawiki add this to your Localsettings.php. Authenticating against wiki member database (Invisionboard)

The new Invisionboard allow external member database authentication. I am trying to link it to my wiki member database. I was able to authenticate against Drupals (blogger) database and another Invisionboard using this code. However, it is not working for mediawiki database. I hope to use this method to bridge several sites into 1 community of members. Can someone help me with the database queries on the mediawiki side? See link below for the authentication code. How to Temp. Disable Wiki.

Is there a way I can install a wiki, but disable it for casual visitors until we have most of our content and templates added. We have been preparing to install a new wiki at its own domain, we have a lot of documents (that are unfortuneatley not in a sql dump), templates, graphics etc that are all part of it. It would be nice to have the time to get all of our info inplace before we open the doors. Thanks Aaron

(Definitely a noob, sorry for the ignorance.) I'm setting up a public site with a MW wiki for a purpose similar to Wikipedia, but in my humble greed I would like to add an Amazon.com Associate link to trickle a little money in the door. This link should appear on all new pages created, in the same general-user-untouchable areas that the navigation and footer elements appear. How do I customize the default HTML generated? Or, failing this, is there a better Wiki for this purpose? TIA --doug

User Page Editing patch - anon user test deleted

MW folk, A few days ago I posted a patch to Title::userCan() to prevent users from editing any user page but their own. I found a small(?) bug in the code and fixed it as documented on meta: code: <http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Yeidel#User_Pages_Editable _Only_By_User> talk: <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Yeidel#User_Page_Editing_--_Anon_U ser_Test_Removed> I removed from the User Page Editing patch the line + && $wgUser->getID() != 0 #not anonymous user The intention was to protect the following "$wgUser->getName()" from being undefined if the test were run for anonymous users. However, that's not really a problem, since $wgUser->getName() returns the IP number for anonymous users. In our environment, this line has no impact, since anonymous users are not permitted to edit anything. In an environment where anon users can edit, this line would cause the disqualifying test not to be applied to anon users; thus an anon user could edit any user page. It was just a mistake that proved to be harmless in our environment, but could be a problem if the code were imported into another environment.

Hello *! I have created a "New page Wizard" collecting all necessary data for new entries using input forms, but creating new articles by 'external' routines seems to be tricky. Calling "index.php?title=<NEWPAGENAME>&action=submit" and providing markup in "wpTextbox1", for good reason, is not enough. But what's the best approach (from "localhost")? Help namespace contents, Language.php changes not taking effect

Hello, Topic 1: This seems like the sort of question that could be immediately referred to documentation, FAQ's or letters in a forum, but I have just spent several hours fruitlessly seeking a solution. I hope someone might tell me how to import the Help files into my newly installed version of Mediawiki. The only thing I have been able to find on the meta site is a one- line suggestion to dump what appears to be the whole database, but even that--which surely is not the right answer--contained no suggestion as to what to do with it. There are a number of unanswered queries on the same question on the Help talk pages, too. Topic 2: Following the configuration instructions, I'm trying to make some changes in the Language.php file, such as changing "portal" to "- ", but they have no effect. I have cleared the cache, too. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help on questions that surely must have been asked already! B.
