Hi, are the documentation text files (HISTORY, README, INSTALL, etc) in
MediaWiki also distributed under the GPL as the source code files?

I have the same problem with lists not being sorted alphabetically.
Neither Special:Categories nor Special:Specialpages sort correctly but
Special:Allpages does. I'm running:
MediaWiki (/http://wikipedia.sf.net//): 1.4.7
PHP (/http://www.php.net//): 4.3.11 (cgi-fcgi)
MySQL (/http://www.mysql.com//): 3.23.58-max
Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? (Not being very familiar
with MediaWiki, PHP or MySQL I'm at a loss where to start looking.)
Thanks,
Karen
Are 1.4.0 search problems fixed in more-recent versions?
eg, On my 1.4.0 site, a search for "release" several title matches...except
for the title of "Release_1.0_spec", possibly the most-important wiki page
on my system.
I've been through a thread before with this, and maybe there are several
things that one can go off and check and fix. I just wonder: is it
possible to make this search "bulletproof" such that one does not have to
"check and fix" things in the background database?
My system:
Apache 2.0.52
php 4.3.9
mysql 4.0.21
MW 1.4.0

Why won't MediaWiki apparently accept the transparency of uploaded .PNG images?
The transparency area is transformed to a solid grey or pinkish color :-(
- Can the transparency be maintained in such images, without installing additional server software? I am running the wiki without ImageMagick, as the wiki is hosted on a external server.
Best wishes,
Morten :-)

I'm using 1.5b4 and am having trouble using page titles
with accents (and other 'special' characters.)
I actually have two installations and at one point
it was working in one and not the other. In my fiddling
I broke it in both though.
So if someone could suggest some things I should be
checking for in LocalSettings.php and/or Apache's
httpd.conf?
Thanks,
Cary

When I first set up my mediawiki (1.5beta4), I didn't have ImageMagick
installed. I then decided to add that capability, downloading and
installing the binaries for ImageMagick 5.5.7 (dynamic) and
php_imagick.dll. Note that Imagick does not work with the static
version or version 6 of ImageMagick (PHP5.0.4 complains that it cannot
find the dll).
So having successfully loaded imagick and having tested imagemagick to
check that it resizes images from the command line, I then made
changes to the LocalSettings file. However, what I find now is that
while mediawiki creates folders for resized images and creates links
to the resized images in those directories, the resized images do not
exist. Can anyone give me guidance on where to look for error messages
(I am using IIS6>0 webserver). If you have already had this problem
and solved it, then I would be even more interested in hearing from
you.
Incidentally, as part of my search, I came across a program called
MagickWand which has had a PHP dll written for it that looks as though
it will be a replacement for Imagick (which works with ImageMagick 6),
although I am not quite clear yet on how it would be implemented. I
realize that this is principally of interest to people running
mediawiki on Windows machines.
As always, any help would be much appreciated. Once I have this sorted
out, I shouldn't need to ask any more questions! Thanks!
First of all, I would like to give a big thank you to everyone who has put time
into making WikiMedia work - I am impressed by how much has been achieved.
I would like however to ask if it would be possible to make it easier to find
relevant forums for asking questions. Some background - my interest is in
running a mediawiki installation - and I have been having a some problems. I
therefore started to look for forums to see if others had had similar problems,
but had difficulty finding where to go.
I tried looking on the mediawiki site, since that seemed most appropriate, and
while the link to meta.wikimedia FAQ is helpful, I couldn't find forums. At some
point I came across listinfo - http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo, but I
couldn't work out which was the correct forum - I didn't want to bore people
working on the guts of mediawiki with my installation problems :-) - and having
chosen one (mediawiki-l), I then had to work out how to view it (which I failed
to achieve!).
I did however find a way of posting a question, but for some reason it did not
carry with it the fact that I had subscribed (I am not sure that this one will,
either!), and it therefore had to be reviewed and forwarded (which Brion kindly
did). It was then posted to a different forum from the one I was expecting (I
had in the meantime discovered gmane), so I wasn't aware that Brion (again,
thank you) had already posted the answer that I needed.
Since I am still trying to work out some of the details of my installation I am
now posting to this group (http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.org.wikimedia.mediawiki),
and I would like to know whether it is the right one for these questions. If it
is, then I will put in a link on the mediawiki website to that effect (provided
no-one objects). In addition it would be great if the "mail.wikipedia.org
Mailing Lists" also made it clear where people with questions about installation
should go (and maybe other categories as well).
Incidentally - the gmane interface to the list looks as though it ought to be
great, but I find that, in addition to me finding it difficult to find the
relevant forums, it does not appear to do searches very well. Is that others'
experience as well, or am I just doing something wrong?
Regards,
Andrew

I've heard that there are some third-party tools for such a thing.
I never got into RSS, but I understand that some RSS clients can also
do emailing too. Basically, each user would set up their RSS client
to check for stuff in the recentchanges and notify them.
Looking into RSS clients which can do email notifications might be a
good direction to take. I don't know that this would be the right
solution, as I've never worked with RSS or email notification.
Hello,
Can Enotif (or anything else) provide per-user email notification for *any*
MediaWiki site content change?
For some users, they do not wish to go manually mark _every_ page on their
watch list.
