Multiple languages

Morning! I am building a web site for a family member who is in the process of completing a PhD and MediaWiki looks like the ideal CMS to use as they will be able to update their own web site (delegation is always important :-) Two questions: 1) There may be a need to have certain pages in multiple languages. Is the best way to do this for a small site is to add a language identifier to the page title eg: here is the CV in [[CV.en|English]] or in [[CV.nl|Dutch]]. Is there a way to do this and still have a more readable title eg "English CV" rathern than "CV.en"? 2) I see from the LocalSettings.php that it is possible to prevent access to certain pages for users who are not logged in. Do I need to list all the pages I want blocked or is it possible to do wildcards eg internal* TIA James

imitating commons on private mediawiki installations

How does commons.wikipedia work? Can this be imitated in other people's own installation of MediaWiki? Is there a technical document under meta explaining this, I can't find any. Yongho

RSS ?

Is there any RSS support for MediaWiki - i.e. generating a .rss stream for a site? I am aware of an extension that parses/embeds rss files within MediaWiki pages with <rss>url</rss> but I want the inverse: to allow others to use RSS to see what's new on my MediaWiki site. -- David J. >From what I understand, your wiki works fine, except it throws that error. If this is the case, then you can turn off the errors by setting $wgShowSQLErrors=false; in LocalSettings.php. Moving from one server to another

Hello, I had mediawiki 1.4.6 installed on a machine which just had the mediawiki directory hanging off the webserver documentroot. I moved this to a production server and onto a vhost and changed my LocalSettings.php over, but all my links are still broken and I'm not sure why. I copied the database as per http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/ How_to_move_a_MediaWiki_Database without issue. I can get to the main page of my installation, no problem but whenever I try to click on any of the links which were copied with the database from the old server, the URL has /mediawiki in it, even though LocalSettings.php has: $wgScriptPath = "";. I'm somewhat stumped. From what I've read, it should be as easy as making sure the $wgScriptPath variable is set correctly, but I may be horribly wrong and there may be something else quite involved that I'm missing. Any ideas?

MediaWiki Installation question

Hi Everyone - I just installed the Mediawiki on my (Debian) server. The installation & configuration went perfectly, without a hitch. But, upon completion, when I went to the main page, I saw this error: Security Alert! The PHP CGI cannot be accessed directly. This PHP CGI binary was compiled with force-cgi-redirect enabled. This means that a page will only be served up if the REDIRECT_STATUS CGI variable is set, e.g. via an Apache Action directive. For more information as to why this behaviour exists, see the manual page for CGI security. For more information about changing this behaviour or re-enabling this webserver, consult the installation file that came with this distribution, or visit the manual page. I know little about PHP (but lots about some other languages!) and I'm not quite sure how do go about fixing this. A Google search wasn't useful and I wasn't able to find a search function on the mailing list archive so I can see if someone has asked this before. What do you recommend I do?
