Hi,
Just started setting up a new wiki on our website. But to get into sync
with the remainder of our site, I'd like to include a menubar on top of
every page.
This bar is in a seperate HTML file, which uses some javascripting for
some 'onmouseover' stuff (basic ImageReady output).
I've included this HTML file with an iframe in monobook.php like;
<div id="scrtop">
<TABLE border=0 ...>
<TR>
<TD>
<iframe src="/scr_top.htm" align="left" WIDTH="100%" ..
name="scrtop"></iframe>
</TD>
</TR>
</TABLE>
</div>
And I even managed to re-position everything on the remainder of the page,
as well for IE as for Firefox using the CSS-files...
This menubar now works without problems in IE 6.0, but in FF (1.0.7) you
only see this bar, no 'onmouseover' actions, no clicking to other sections
within the site.... nothing....
I've already been playing around like with or without <DIV> or the
<TABLE>, using an <include> instead of the <iframe>.
But I'm not really an PHP-expert, so I'm getting stuck here.
Anybody know how to solve this, or got a better solution how to include
this menubar within the monobook-skin?
TIA!
Regards,
Hans
Dear friends, I don't not care about namespaces, categories, or other stuff. I want only have, in the left box, a list of links, like:
- poetry
- history
- etc.
But strange as it might seem, this basic function is not intuitive at all...
I have red that I had to change something in page "MediaWiki:Sidebar", but where is this page? No links even in the Special pages, so first I searched first for "LesWiki:Sidebar" given that the name of my wiki is LesWiki, but it was wrong... Tried with "MediaWiki:Sidebar" and I could change the page, adding some items like "** poetry|poetry", but nothing changed, the new item did not appear in the list of link
Can you please help me telling step by step what the hell I have to do, before I begin to cry? Thank you very much...
=========
In my include/DefaultSetting.php:
$wgSitename = 'LesWiki';
$wgUseDatabaseMessages = false; (otherwise I could not edit my language file)
In my LocalSetting.php:
$wgSitename = "LesWiki";
$wgDefaultSkin = 'cologneblue';
$wgLanguageCode = "it";
A few months ago someone posted a note on how MediaWiki logs you off
automatically when moving from one copy of MediaWiki to another (usually
another language) but within the same subdomain, say from mpkb.net/en to
mpkb.net/es (whereas wikipedia uses en.wikipedia.org/wiki and
es.wikipedia.org/wiki ) And someone posted in response that a "php cache"
differentiation was needed in LocalSettings.php for each copy.
Could someone post a sample configuration of this cache thing? I tried
google searching for this topic a with a number of keywords but can't seem
to get to the original thread.

I certainly agree that a list of pages with links but no content that
have yet to be created would be useful; this needs someone who is
familiar with the system to write them all down or someone to setup a
new site and just go through everything.
My site has been running for a while now and I still occasionally come
across the odd system page I haven't created yet.

Clearly, you didn't read what I said, and you didn't check
Special:Allmessages either.
Yes, I know about that page, yes I find it helpful, but it is not
enough.
It does NOT list [[Protected_page_guidelines]] which is linked from
[[protectedpagewarning]]. This is one example only.
Also, there are a large number of messages in that page, most of which
are
OK and do not need much tweaking for me. My complaint is that I'd like
a
list of
pages that DO need tweaking, mostly because they don't yet exist.
I guess what I would like is a list of all pages in Special:Allmessages
that
do NOT exist, as well as a list of all pages those pages link to that
also
do not exist...
As we both have pointed out, there are already two places to go to get a
list of _ALL_ messages.

Hi,
I am running mediawiki 1.5.2 on Fedora core 4.
I try to have TeX implemented. I read the 'Enable
TeX' on meta and the README file in the math
directory.
I have all the external programs installed and tested.
The command line texve seems working well.
For example, by executing the following command in the
math directory
./texvc /var/www/wiki/images/tmp
/var/www/wiki/images/math/ "\lim_{n \to \infty}x_n"
iso-8859-1
I got the desired PNG in the
/var/www/wiki/images/math/
So the directory permssion is OK.
But when I tried <math>\sqrt{1-e^2}</math> on
mediawiki
I got the following error msg,
Failed to parse (unknown error): \sqrt{1-e^2}
Can someone help me and share some light
thanks
jc

Hi there! I'm kinda new to all of this, and would appreciate it if any
of you could help me out. I'm trying to install MediaWiki to:
http://singletrackwiki.thesteeps.net
I'm worried about going further in the setup process because of this
gibberish (or maybe it's not gibberish?)
My server is GoDaddy, running on Linux, and running PHP vers. 4.3.11
Now, I've uploaded all of the contents of the mediawiki-1.5.2.tar into
the directory that singletrackwiki.thesteeps.net directs you to. I now
get this at the top of the page when I navigate to it (in Safari and
Firefox, but not IE):
----------------------------------------
index.php"Q?2?2mBIN????Defines.phph?K??K?mBIN???DefaultSettings.php?<???????mBIN????SiteConfiguration.php
???????mBIN???, {{{flower image}}}
MediaWiki 1.5.2
You'll have to set the wiki up first!
----------------------------------------
I haven't even gotten to the main install form and this error occurs.
The main install form (when I click "set up the wiki") has the
following (in Safari, Firefox, AND IE):
----------------------------------------
index.php±ƒ¿‡7<¿‡7 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers
already sent by (output started at
/home/content/t/h/e/thesteeps/html/singletrackwiki/config/index.php:1)
in /home/content/t/h/e/thesteeps/html/singletrackwiki/config/index.php
on line 22
Defines.phph¿KÈ¿KÈmBIN‚?æ¥DefaultSettings.phpÒ<¿Ž¶Ð¿Ž¶ÐmBIN‚?æíSiteConfiguration.php
¦¾÷'¾÷'mBIN‚?Ç, MagicWord.php"¾ãmº¾ãmºmBIN‚?"?
Namespace.phpŒ¿&š¿&šmBIN‚?Æ
----------------------------------------
at the top of the page...
What do you think could be the problem?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I'm a designer, and not
very code-savvy apart from CSS and HTML!
I tried all the suggestions that were given to me and all of them worked!. I
have one more question, i am using
$wgHooks['ParserAfterStrip'][] = 'myShowReferenceFunction';
This function basically gets a list of references for an article from the
database. I want to know how can i append the list thus obtained at the end of
the article?. Is there any specific way to do it?
Thanks
Hello,
I am wondering if there is a way to track user login statistics such as who
logged in and when. This would be really handy as I am running a closed
access genealogy wiki for my family. Thanks!
Alex.
Hello,
I have recently installed mediawiki (1.5.2) on my PC, and now want to
enable the <math> tag. I looked at the instructions to enable TeX in the
FAQ, but it doesn't seem to work ("unknown math error"). I think the
problems come from two things :
- where exactly do I install the required packages ? Must it be in the
/math subfolder or can it be anywhere ? Can I use MikTeX instead of TeX
Live?
- how do I run 'make' for texvc ? I am not working with Linux for this
project, and cygwin doesn't seem to accept 'make' or 'gmake'...
I'm really sorry if these problems are reported somewhere else, but I
didn't find anything in the Documentation or the Web. I can only admire
your patience in answering this sort of basic questions...
Regards, Faager
Is there any RSS support for MediaWiki - i.e. generating a .rss stream for a site?
I am aware of an extension that parses/embeds rss files within MediaWiki pages with <rss>url</rss>
but I want the inverse: to allow others to use RSS to see what's new on my MediaWiki site.
