Hey, all.
I set up a new wiki...and then I got the additional domain name complete.
So that what was ed.com/wiki
now has mysite.org pointed to the wiki directory.
The redirect works fine... http finds the folder and starts the
wiki...but then things fall apart. It wants files in mysite.org/wiki
which of course doesn't exist (=ed.com/wiki/wiki).
Do I have to run the installer again, losing the pages already created
in the Wiki?
Thanks,
Ed
I just tried to do a clean install on a new server and got the following error:

Regards,
Hi,
we are running mediawiki v1.4.0 with a iso-8859-1 DB, and as we tried
to upgrade, locale conversion from iso-8859-1 to UT-8 didn't work as
all latin1 chars like çéõ etc. got replaced by ",". This would be
"only" a PITA if we had to manually convert accented chars by
hand, but it turned out that the converstion of URLs with latin1 chars
sent some pages into a blackhole -- they simply seem to disappear.
I filed a bug about this (bug #3898
http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3898), please check
the link for more details. But I was hoping anyone on this ML would
know how to work around this...
Any of you guys had to do such conversion? If so, did it work 100%?
Until I can successfully convert the DB locale, we're stuck with 1.4.0 =
(
Any help will be much appreciated.
TIA
Andre

*Hello
I installed Unbuntu 5.04 and now I obtain this error message instead
mathematical formulas:
Failed to parse (PNG conversion failed; check for correct installation
of latex, dvips, gs, and convert): f(x,y,z; \alpha, C) = (x-x_C)\;
e^{-\alpha (\vec{r}-\vec{r_C})^2}*
α and *Failed to parse (PNG conversion failed; check for correct
installation of latex, dvips, gs, and convert): x_C, y_C, z_C
I checked **latex, dvips, or gs
but I do not know how to obtain "convert" from synaptic or apt-get.
Could you help

Is there the functionality to disallow editing until a user responde
to the authentication request?
I tested what email authentication functionality I saw, but it allows
any anonymous user to sign up and edit without them caring about the
email notice.
I hope I'm just missing something..
Hello.
I have a question, not really a problem.
I've seen in the doc (don't remember where) that to have the
upload of images allowed, the image folder should be
writtable by all (chmod 777).
When looking at my config, I see that at an unknown moment
(I think I was tired and forgot to document the change) I
made this foder "wwwrun:www" and chmod 755
rwxr-xr-x 14 wwwrun www 392 2005-10-13 20:07 images
I beg wwwrun is the apache user on my suse linux 9.0. this
works ok.
thus a reader gives me as a clue to use suphp with an unix
user and a chmod 700
what do you think of this? what is the best method?
second, I plan to upload my wiki on my ISP server, but there
I will not have any chmod available, however php is commonly
used and is said to have the necessary permissions. Do you
think there may be a problem?
thanks

Hello
Having been hit quite badly by a spammer (bot?) similar to what others are
describing, I have tried to put some anti-spam measures in place, but I'm
getting confused with the SpamBlacklist extension (using with mediawiki
1.5.0). I got the files from cvs and put them in extensions/SpamBlacklist/,
then after having a tricky time getting the raw list from mediawiki (does it
still need to use a cron to fetch this, the "load_lists" file did not seem to
be in current cvs), I got the chonqued list as so:
wget -O chongqed_blacklist_raw 'http://blacklist.chongqed.org'
cut -d? -f3 chongqed_blacklist_raw > chongqed_blacklist
I then added the include for SmapBlacklist in Localsettings.php:
require_once( "$IP/extensions/SpamBlacklist/SpamBlacklist.php" );
$wgSpamBlacklistFiles = array(
"$IP/extensions/SpamBlacklist/wikimedia_blacklist", // Wikimedia
"$IP/extensions/SpamBlacklist/chongqed_blacklist"
// database title
// "DB: wikidb My_spam_blacklist",
);
wikimedia_blacklist is a zero size file.
Now when I try to edit a page, I can add a pattern from the chonqued_blacklist
and still save the page with no warnings or blocks. Here is a section of the
tail of chonqued_blacklist (I have prepended "1" onto all urls):
1zytemp\.com\.cn
1zzdh\.com1zzdx\.com
This seems similar to the wikimedia format, but when I edit a page and add for
example http://1zzdx.com, the page saves fine. Am I missing something?
Thanks for any suggestions,
H
I'm using MediaWiki 1.5, and I'm trying to activate the
trackback-function. As far as I understand all I need to do is add this
code to localsettings.php:
$wgUseTrackbacks = true;
Did that, but now what? I thought I would see a trackback-url at the
bottom of the page, or in the toolbox, but that is not happening.
Did I miss something?

Hello,
Just came up with another question - is it possible to edit many pages
at once to change one exact string to another?
For example, I need to change category of 20 articles; do I have to edit
them all one by one or is it possible to just replace category name in
some different convenient way?
Thanks,
Mike
I am trying to import the contents of one mediawiki site into another using
the export/import function.
The problem is the size of the export is about 4mb which is causing an
import error on upload (Upload of import file failed; perhaps the file is
bigger than the allowed upload size). I have broken the export into chunks
but this still fails when I try to upload an export XML file greater than
2mb.
Is there anyway to increase the size of an import? I have tried messing with
the image import but this does not seem to work.
Another question is how does the import handle conflicting pages? I am
trying to figure this out in my testing but if anyone knows it would be
helpful.
Thanks,
Jeff
