Hello,
I've installed Mediawiki 1.3.0beta5 on a Linux Debian Woody
(3.0, stable) machine.
Now when I try to use Special:Askasql as sysop I get the error
message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_thread_id() in
/home/rene/projects/carriere/www/wiki/includes/Database.php on
line 461
This must be because woody has PHP 4.1, and mysql_thread_id()
was introduced in PHP 4.3.
So strictly speaking "PHP 4.1.2 required (4.3.x is preferred)"
on http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Running_MediaWiki_on_Linux is
incorrect. 4.3 is required.
Unfortunately, there is no backport of PHP 4.3.x for woody on
www.backports.org.
What's the best way to proceed? Install PHP 4.3 from source on
woody? Or upgrade the machine to Debian sarge?
Anyone else still running Mediawiki on woody?

My website was just defaced, and I have not yet had a chance to
investigate the exact causes. The script-kiddie was able to upload a
php shell creation script + php-explorer and others.
I installed mediawiki in the last two weeks, and the folder is now
gone. I'm wondering if mediawiki is known to be secure with
allow_url_fopen set to on? Are there any known vulnerabilities in
mediawiki? I do not know the exact vulnerability that caused my site to
be owned, and there may have been mulitple vulnerabilitites, I'm just
asking what if any info you might have in this regard.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi,
I am having troubles trying to add namespaces to
mediawiki 1.2. Can someone help explain the best way
or point me to some good documentation.
Thanks

Hi All,
I've almost got an arabic version of MediaWiki1.3beta05 running (with
good LanguageAr.php translation that I'll post shortly in order to get
it in MediaWiki 1.3). One problem which also appears on
http://ar.wikipedial.org if you increase the font size to Largest (in
IE) the options on top (article, edit page, etc ...) would behave in a
weird way when you move the mose on top of them.
Any ideas?

Mohammed Saleh

Is it possible to modify MediaWiki so that people *must* be logged in
to edit?
Note: Thanks to everyone, especially Brion, who helped with my URL
forwarding issues. I was able to resolve them by reconfiguring my host,
rather than messing with the MediaWiki code itself. In the process I
learned a lot about how DNS works! There isn't much on the wiki yet,
but now I can focus on content!
Cheers,

Hi,
I have a vanilla version of MediaWiki 1.2.6 installed
and it's been running fine for a long time.
Yesterday, it suddenly stopped and I don't know why.
The symptoms now are when you go to the main page,
wiki/index.php, the request fails.
Using Apple's Safari browser this appears like so:
Safari cant open the page
http://167.167.212.71/wiki/index.php because it
could not load any data from this location.
Internet Explorer returns this:
The attempt to load 'Accessing URL:
http://167.167.212.71/wiki/index.php' failed.
I've checked PHP and mysql and at first glance they
seem normal. What else can I try? Is there any log
kept anyplace to check?
Thanks,
Eugene

Hi,
we've just installed the current MediaWiki Distribution on our site. Since the
name of our site includes a : the name of the Wiki includes one, too. I think
the colon in the name causes a problem.
The problem is that /some/ pages in the "our:wiki" namespace don't work. For
example the our:wiki:Bureaucrat log contains an empty page but gets listed as
recently changed. Other pages affected in that namespace include the FAQ and
the License terms, which ar listed on the bottom of every page. What
irritates me is the fact that some pages, like the How_to_edit_a_page in that
namespace work.
Now I'd like to know wether this problem can be fixed or if we should rename
the Wiki and if we rename it how this is done best - can I simply change the
LocalSettings.php or do I have to keep something in mind. While renaming I
would like if the already existing pages would stay since some authors
already worked on them.
Greets,
johannes
