This is true. Though I haven't actually yet made it to a meet-up, I have had
the pleasure of meeting up privately with other editors and the bitching
about project issues with people who understand and encyclopedic flights of
fancy were a dominant part of it. ;D
However fun that that was though, it didn't achieve much beyond bonding. I
can happily organise such opportunities to bond if needed, but will people
come?

I would go to the trouble of organising a
Manchester meetup if I felt it
would be helpful. however, all the executive appear to be located in
London,
so any northern meetup is probably just going to
be a pub social, which
doesn't really move matters along.
Oh, that's not the case at all. Meeting other editors is good in
itself. You can quietly bitch about project issues with people you
know understand, and when that tires after five minutes you can go off
on wild flights of encyclopedic fancy. You don't need a magic blessing
to feel energised by a meetup.
(I'm slightly boggling at the perceived scarcity economy of intangible
pixie dust.)
