Dorset.
I have already Emailed those of our Wiki Loves Monuments participants who

I think we need to look at the sort of things we want out of a venue:
- Not too noisy
- Decent food/drink, but not too expensive
- Spacious rather than cramped (particularly important for people with
children)
- Ideally, a children's play area attached
- Near railway station for people out of town and with parking not to
far away for those who still drive cars.
Perhaps there are some other points that could be added.I am not sure about
public Wifi asI am getting increasingly nervous about security issues as
regards this. However, perhaps we can organise Wikimifis for the occasion.

Due to a security vulnerability in Xen, Rackspace are updating all of their servers (not just Wikimedia UK’s) which has necessitated a restart of all their servers.
This is currently affecting us; all of our websites and services.
Service will be resumed as quickly as possible, and I am monitoring (as I can) for issues related to the restarts.
It’s not a brilliant situation, but the host has had no choice because of this major vulnerability (affecting many hosting providers).
Sorry to be brief; handling a whole host of restarts with all my clients tonight ;) Any questions, please ask.

Just a short local press story noting there's a wikimeet happening.

We are very lucky to have Magnus Manske lead the session and we are
particularly keen to encourage our accredited trainers to attend as we plan
to build the capacity to run more sessions up and down the country.
Wikidata is an amazing innovation which promises to have an increasingly
significant impact both on the way Wikipedia works as well as on the wider
Open Data movement. This is a good opportunity to get a clearer
understanding of how Wikidata works.

At the Board meeting on October 4th the trustees will be considering a
report from an IT consultant on how the Chapter could develop its support
of technical innovation. There are several options in the document

For those who are interested, this meetup will also function as an impromptu Wiki Loves Monuments meetup! Bring a camera along and we will take a walk after the meetup - the venue is close to Newington, the Bridges, the University of Edinburgh, the Royal Mile, and the Grassmarket. The 2014 competition closes on 30th September, so this will be a perfect opportunity to learn more about the guidelines and rules, and to photograph some of the city's historic sites!
Note: if you only wish to join us for the photography expedition, meet in front of Brew Lab at 16:00.

Hello everyone,
Wikimedia UK has been in discussion with our friends at the Science Museum
regarding taking part in a Science Museum Lates event on Wednesday 26
November. The theme of the event will be The Information Age to celebrate
the opening of their new gallery on this theme

in October. This gallery is a significant development, the biggest of its
kind in the museum for more than a decade. Entry is free and the Late
audience is going to be around 5,000 people, most between 18 and 35 and
with a roughly equal gender balance.
The discussions are going well and we are now looking for suggestions of
the kind of activities we could offer in the Museum during the evening
event.
If you have any ideas for events or displays - make them ambitious and
exciting! - please tell Stevie Benton or me, and we will bring you on board
to help make the plans and arrangements. It's also possible we will need
some volunteers on the night. If you're keen to be involved, again, please
do let us know.
Lates take place in the museum on the last Wednesday of every month.

is about the science of magic and illusion

Preparations for EduWiki Conference 2014

swing. The event will take place on Friday 31 October 2014 in Edinburgh.
