Hello everyone,
I'm currently in discussion with the BBC about how we might develop come
useful collaborations, including a potential memorandum of understanding.
How do people feel about Wikimedia UK working with the BBC and do you have
any ideas for potential projects? There's a page with some notes at
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Potential_memorandum_of_understanding_and_col…
so
please take a look. If the discussion could take place on the talk page
that would be very helpful.
Thanks and regards,
Stevie

Thanks for the update. Not sure how “terrific" I find that news, personally, given that I have spent around 20 hours over the last two days working to meet the original deadline!
Best regards

It’s not clear to me what will be done with the answers proposed so far at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/European_Commission_copyright_consultation
Will they be submitted as they are, or is someone proposing to merge them into a single version (even though many answers have been signed)?
Also unclear unless I have missed something is who will the answers be submitted by, and on whose behalf? Only individuals - and not the Foundation nor chapters - have formally posted answers so far, so is the intention that the answers will be submitted by and on behalf of those individuals only?
The page says that the response "can be submitted by the Wikimedia Foundation and other interested groups”, so perhaps the answers are merely intended as a resource others can use if they wish?
If the intention is that a formal response will be submitted on behalf of the unincorporated group Free Knowledge Advocacy Group EU, then it would be sensible for that group to register with the EU Transparency Register, here:
http://ec.europa.eu/transparencyregister/info/homePage.do?locale=en
According to the EU, responses to the consultation from non-registered entities will "be published separately from the registered organisations”, which may mean less influence. See:
http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/consultations/2013/copyright-rules/inde…
(I note that the Foundation is not registered!)
By the way, WMUK will be completing and filing its own separate response.

Anyone in Scotland able to go to this? Looks very interesting
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/copilot-comes-to-scotland-tickets-10257050113
(via Martin Hawksey):
This workshop will give a practical introduction to OER for teaching
information literacy. Though a mixture of presentation, group work and
hands-on activity participants will learn to find, evaluate and consider
adopting OER for use in their own practice.
Participants are invited to identify opportunities where OER can enhance
their current teaching and to bring their own materials along to the session
to release as OER.
At the end of this session participants will:
* Gain an overview of Creative Commons licencing and be able to add a
chosen licence to a resource
* Be introduced to the OER repositories to find existing resources
and to add their own
* Reflect on personal attitudes and behaviour in relation to Open
Practice
A free sandwich lunch and drinks will be provided. We are looking forward to
seeing you there!

Hi Dimitar
There is no need to turn FKAGEU into an incorporated entity in order to register on the EU's Transparency Register. The EU site specifically says that:
Networks, platforms or other forms of collective activity without a legal status or legal personality but which constitute de facto a source of organised influence, and engaged in activities falling within the scope of the register are expected to register. In such case its members should identify one of their number as its responsible contact person for their relations with the administration of the register.
http://ec.europa.eu/transparencyregister/info/your-organisation/whoRegister…
It's not very clear what that means, but presumably something more than a loose collection of interested individuals, as reference is made to "members", and the form that needs to be filled in refers to "organisations".

In this case again, each chapter and individual is free to use the answering set. As far as the Transparency register is concerned, we cannot list the Free Knowledge Advocacy Group EU, since it is not a legal entity. We do, however, have three chapters that are on this register - WMDE, WMIT and WMMK. It is up to each and every chapter to do this step. Alternatively we can talk about actually founding the FKAGEU, but that is a conversation that need to be led in a differnt setting.
