All,
Slightly dull email, but an important one for those of you who drop into
the office regularly.
There has been a change in the fire escape routes for the Wikimedia UK
offices.
If you’re in the basement area and the fire alarm sounds, DO NOT exit
through the courtyard. Instead, exit through the Archive Room and turn
right to access the external fire escape stairwell. Go up one flight of
stairs, open the black gate and you will exit onto ground level.
We have changed the fire escape signage to mark the new escape route - when
you're next here, if you want to be shown the new route, let us know and
we'll point it out.
All the best,
Richard Symonds

Hi
Just a wee reminder that there is a Wiki meetup this Saturday in Glasgow (30th April).
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/Glasgow/7
ALL WELCOME.
I'll be outside Sharmanka at 2.45pm (inside the reception area if it is raining) at 103 Trongate so I can meet you there and go inside for the 3pm show. I'll have a Wikimedia bag & Wiki booklets with me so you can recognise me.
Only £5 for the show but please bring cash to pay for your ticket as that is what the Sharmanka exhibition have requested.
If you don't fancy Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre then we have a table booked at 4.15pm round the corner at Mono cafebar at 12 Kings Court.
So come along for coffee/tea/beer/wine/cider/food (delete as appropriate) + relaxing weekend Wiki discussion and social chitchat among like-minded folk who are interested in finding out more about Wikipedia.
Not sure about the venue this time round? Why not swing by to suggest an alternative venue for the next meet? Happy to roam throughout Glasgow as long as it is bright, light & comfy with wifi.
The CCA? The Belle? So many good venues BUT you can help shape where we pop into next time round. Looking to do this every 2 months so your input would be appreciated.
Hopefully see you at Mono & Sharmanka this time anyway!
Oh, by the way, please don't forget that there is also an Edinburgh meetup next week on Thursday 5th May too.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/Edinburgh/10
Come for the Plague exhibition and some convivial chat in the National Library of Scotland café (we've been promised one of the boardrooms if we can get more than few bods to turn up. Gotta say, I'm curious to see what the inner sanctum of the NLS looks like.)
Cheers

I asked a friend of mine, a professional event photographer who works
in London, if he could kindly help, and today he took these:

one of which I have added to four relevant articles.

Hello everyone,
The Europeana Art Challenge has kicked off and runs until 30th May.
The aim is to make sure that there are Wikidata entries and Wikipedia
articles for each of the 300 artworks chosen from across Europe.
Details of the competition and how to sign up are here:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Europeana_Art_History_Challenge
As of writing only 58 out of 300 artworks have an article in English
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Europeana_Art_History_Challenge/Data.
If something close to home sounds interesting, there are 20 artworks
selected from England and Wales.
- England
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Europeana_Art_History_Challenge/Engl…
- Wales
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Europeana_Art_History_Challenge/Wales
There's a points based system and prizes for the most points from each
country.
Time to get stuck in!

Please also feel free to mention to people you believe maybe interested in attending; whether they have been editing for years or perhaps have never edited at all (as yet, hopefully).
http://sharmanka.com/Home/Welcome.html

You will be able to read, but not edit, all wikis for a short period of
time.
You will not be able to edit for approximately 15 to 30 minutes on
Tuesday, 19 April and Thursday, 21 April, starting at 14:00 UTC (15:00
BST, 16:00 CEST, 10:00 EDT, 07:00 PDT).
Hello,
On Saturday 7th May WMUK and the Senate House Library are holding a Shakespeare
in London editathon
<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/shakespeare-in-london-a-wikipedia-workshop-t…>
.
The main focus of the day will be places appearing in Shakespeare's works.
It promises to be an interesting event, and there is an exhibition about
about the Bard at the library which you can visit in between edits.
Please come along (and sign up in advance so we have an idea of how many
people will be there).

Hello,
In February we conducted a survey relating to volunteer activity in 2015.
69 people responded and the results are now on the UK wiki:
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Volunteer_survey/2015/Report
Thank you to everyone who took part, and especially thank you to everyone
who has volunteer for the charity.
