According to the MetaWiki website, I am the putative Company
Secretary for Wiki Educational Resources.
It is also states that I could be a Director/Trustee. On reflection,
I would prefer to be Company Secretary only, subject to approval, and
neither a Director nor a Member.
Regards,
Gordon Joly
This is really a matter for the Treasurer/Finance Director/whatever
their title is, but given previous discussion on the list, I thought
you might find this (which I found out about today) of use:
http://www.bba.org.uk/bba/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=142&a=225
The one thing missing is the monthly charge rates (if any), but it
gives a fair idea of what's on the marketplace. Charities and
not-for-profit groups with turnover under £100K a year can often get
free banking.
As I said before, branch location/phgone/online services of best use to
the treasurer, services and price are likely to be the three key
criteria - and the trustees will need to weigh up services offered
versus cost. If you're likely to want (the hassle of) direct debits,
and/or have lots of cash donations, the Bank of Scotland one doesn't
look too bad, especially with the Halifax network for the deposit of
cheques, money etc.
Hope that helps
Scott

My employer offers a basic savings account for charities, though not a
current account.

The UK media has discovered the US Senate story and today is Media
Batshit Day. I just did a Guardian interview for tomorrow (to be in
both paper and online - the online version is 3x the size of the paper
version, so it's always a good idea to ask!). So look out for it.
There should be TV coverage as well, if Danny can match interviewees
with interviewers fast enough - if everyone could try to record the
assorted TV news tonight, that'd be great, particularly if you have a
DVD recorder and/or can do multiple channels!
We'll probably try to drag in Alison Wheeler as a backup UK media
contact for *special* days like this. (Alison, you're drafted!) Other
suitable UK volunteers who can get away from their desk by day at
short notice might be good too.

"As many of you are aware, Wikipedia continues to get regular media
coverage as various issues come up. Jimbo is usually the first person
the media turn to, but he doesn't have time to respond to all of the
increasing requests for interviews, even the ones in English. So
Elisabeth Bauer, Wikimedia Foundation press officer, has asked me to
recruit more people who are willing to do media interviews about Wikipedia.
"Please contact me *off-list* if you are interested in being added to the
list of potential contacts. Obviously, responding indicates you agree to
allow your contact information to be disseminated to reporters and
Foundation volunteers/employees who coordinate interviews.
"The information we need from you is as much of the following as you're
willing to provide:
-Wikipedia username, preferably along with your real name if different,
because reporters are more likely to consider people giving real names
as credible sources
-Email address and a phone number (for interviews, most reporters still
prefer phone or, if they use it, instant messaging, because it lends
itself better to follow-up questions based on your initial responses)
-General location, to facilitate coverage by local media
-A brief description of yourself, so that some basic information could
be attached if you're quoted in an article (e.g., high school physics
teacher, or student at X university)
"Naturally we can't guarantee that anyone in particular will get
interviews, but you may get called on at short notice. We do appreciate
all who are willing to help.

I don't think you'll be calling it Wikimania if it's held here. Someone else has just reserved the name:
