Hi all
I'm just sharing this from the international mailing list as I thought it
was something quite fun for us all to participate in. Also an irritating
sound logo for Wikimedia would be quite, well, irritating, so this is the
community's chance to pick something great! The following was shared to the
mailing list by the sound logo team at the Wikimedia Foundation:
"Voting https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Sound_Logo_Vote in the
Wikimedia sound logo contest has started. Crowds, pages turning, drums,
chimes, vocals, and the sound of keyboards typing. Wikimedia is alive with
sound, music, and everything in between. From December 6 to 19, 2022,
please play a part and help identify the Sound of All Human Knowledge.
Voting is open until 19 December, 23:59 UTC. Learn more on Diff

Wikipedia remotely*, and we want to *invite you* to participate in our
*research
study anonymously*.
If you agree to participate in this study, please click on the following
questionnaire link so we can find out how familiar you are with Wikipedia

mins to complete*.
At the end, *you will be redirected to an online social ideation and voting
tool called Tricider* to *view, comment, and vote on others' ideas about
designing an online Wikipedia training tool* and to add your ideas for
others to discuss and vote on. Please beware of the Tricider website's
adverts that would look like part of the listed ideas.

Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone knew of any UK-based Wikidata 10th birthday events
happening next weekend?
Doesn't look like the chapter currently has any (public) plans to do
anything - is there much Wikidata interest in the chapter's sphere of
influence?

Hi all
I'm delighted to share with you all that we have recently hired our
first-ever residency for climate. Tatjana Baleta has been recruited as
Wikimedia Visiting Fellow at the University of Exeter, within the Global
Systems Institute (GSI) academic community. Tatjana will work alongside
several world-leading climate scientists, including those at the UK Met
Office with whom the GSI has a strategic partnership. She will also be
amongst researchers from other disciplines who are looking into climate
impacts, climate justice, biodiversity and energy.
There's an announcement blog
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/2022/10/new-partnership-delivers-wikimedia-uks-fir…>
with more details, including a quote from Femke Nijsse who was essential in
helping us form this partnership. There's also a blog
<https://wikimedia.org.uk/2022/10/welcome-tatjana-baleta-wikimedia-visiting-…>
written by Tatjana about her background in climate communications and
conservation.
It's very exciting to have a dedicated staff member for our newest
strategic pillar, and I'm sure you'll all join us in welcoming her. Tatjana
has joined this mailing list, but if you'd like to get in touch with her
directly please use t.baleta(a)exeter.ac.uk.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Best wishes
Katie

I was particularly glad to come across
https://www.photolondon.org.uk/
today, because its information on old London photographers is very useful in researching images. I was wondering where it had got to.
There is more at
https://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/2826398369?profile=orig…
and an Internet Archive page at
https://archive.ph/JpEF3
Does anyone have contacts with the Museum of London or the original compilers? The individual photographer biographies now have IDs and Wikidata ought to be able to make use of those. The underlying research is important, and is there a way we can support that?
