Dear all I'm writing to let you know that our Communications Co-ordinator John Lubbock will be leaving Wikimedia UK at the end of January next year. I'd like to thank John for all his excellent work for the charity in the (nearly) four years since he joined us, and to wish him all the best in his future endeavours. John is likely to continue supporting several ongoing Wikimedia projects as a volunteer and will remain a valued part of our community going forward. Hopefully there will be an opportunity for some of you to see John in person before he leaves, and I'm sure he'll be in touch himself over the next couple of months. In search of a Python geek

An university has released part of their data on an open licence. I now need to extract the relevant fields (around half a million) using python. The job was started by the uni, but the member of staff moved on. Does anybody with Python skills who would like to collaborate? The University is in mid Wales. Wikimedia UK's draft Strategic Framework for 2019 - 2022

Dear all During 2019 Wikimedia UK has been working to a draft new strategic framework for 2019 - 2022 which was developed earlier this year through discussions with staff, board and volunteers. Our delivery and reporting in the current financial year has been based on the new framework, however the strategy has remained in draft form while we considered the strategic implications of the recommendations emerging from the global movement strategy working groups. Following a board away day in late September 2019 the draft strategy has been further refined, and is shared on wiki here: https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Wikimedia_UK_Strategy_2019%E2%80%9322 Whilst the strategy builds on our achievements and learning from 2016 to 2019 and represents a new iteration rather than a complete change of direction, there is a greater emphasis on Wikimedia UK’s role as a facilitator and enabler of open knowledge, rather than as an organisation focused on project delivery. Within this framework, our underpinning delivery model of partnerships, community and technology becomes even more important, and we welcome feedback on how to strengthen our effectiveness in these three areas, in addition to any other comments on our proposed approach. London Meetup - WLM walkabout?

Can you help us review images for Wiki Loves Monuments UK 2019?

Hi lists Wikimedia UK is supporting the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest again this year, and I am looking for 25-30volunteers to help review and filter the entries. The contest finishes at the end of September, with reviewing and judging taking place immediately after that. We normally have several rounds of reviewing during October, enabling us to reduce the expected 10,000+ entries down to long list of a few hundred from which the winners are selected by our panel of judges. You'd need to be able to commit to a minimum of 4-5 hours online reviewing, during the first two weeks of October. As reviewing is done online, volunteers can be based anywhere in the world and you don't need to have any UK connections. We’re not looking for expert photographers, but you should have a basic ability to be able to distinguish a good photograph from a poor or mediocre one. Training in the online reviewing software is available.
