Hello all,
Just an announcement that we will be holding another Scot-Wiki meet-up, this time in Glasgow, this Saturday from 13.00 onwards. We have booked some tables at the Saramago Café in the CCA (map and details available on the event page: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetup/Glasgow/4)
It would be great to see some of you there!
Cheers,

Hello everyone,
As you may have seen recently, Wikimedia UK and Demos have been working
with Wikimedians to pilot an attempt at crowdsourcing a submission to the
Speaker's Commission on Digital Democracy. The page is on Meta, here -
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Connecting_knowledge_to_power:_the_future_o…
I would like to know if it is possible to archive some of the content on
the page. It's not just a question of copying the content from the page and
placing it on a new page. I'm wondering if it is possible to archive the
edit histories as well.
Any help appreciated!

The English (and many other ) Wikipedias use "Authority Control";
identifiers like VIAF, ORCID and several others, which help us to
disambiguate people with the same name, and to be sure that the
subject is the same person as that referred to in other sources.
The main tool for doing this is the template:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Authority_control
I can see no evidence that the template, or Authority Control in
general, is used on the Welsh Wikipedia (I'm not a Welsh speaker).
Have I missed somethng? If not, I'd be happy to advise on its
implementation.

I can't remember who asked about this at the London meetup but options are:
.X3D seems to be trying to become the web standard. We would want to modify
it a bit to support our preferred video and audio formats.
.blend Native file format of blender 3D rendering software. Covered by
various versions of GPL. They also make films. The latest, Tears of Steel,
is not on commons because even the low res versions clock in at over 300MB.
The 4K version is a bit over 6GB. In any case their films can be found on
the usual video sites.
.Blend would perhaps be best treated as a raw data format with the
renderings exported to something else. On the other hand blender is
probably the most powerful free and open source tool for 3d work.
>From the 3D printing world we have .STL and .AMF. If supporting printable
objects is our prime interest they would be the way to go.

As part of the Wikimania fringe, there will be a practical session on the
new developments round quizzes and the Wikisoba tool (by Magnus Manske):
https://wikimania2014.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education_Pre-Conference/VLE_conte…
I'll be running this as hands-on chance to learn how to code your own
quizzes based on MediaWiki page sections. Do express interest offlist: I'll
gladly create VLE accounts ahead of time for those who want them, giving
access to existing quiz questions. But the session will be largely
independent of previous knowledge of the VLE and Moodle.

Over the last few months we have changed our banking arrangements to ensure
speedier payments of your expenses.
We believe we can now turn round claims quickly but would like to know if
it appears that way from your point of view.
If you have any problems to report please let us know.

Hello everyone,
You might be interested to note that the work Wikimedia UK has been doing
with Demos to try and crowdsource a submission to the Speaker's Commission
on Digital Democracy has completed its first phase, resulting in a
submission on the theme of digital scrutiny. It can be seen on the
Parliament website here (PDF link)
http://www.parliament.uk/documents/speaker/digital-democracy/A_Wiki-sourced…
We are currently developing work towards the second theme, which is
participation. More information will follow on this when the page is online.
Thanks and regards,
Stevie
