I have no idea what you are referring to. Since your action against me
on this list, nobody has complained about my posts to other lists. I
refute that I have "continued to post in this manner elsewhere"
particularly as you have never pointed to any email of mine, but have
preferred to make dark public implications of me being a bad person,
without providing evidence of the bad things I have done.

This is based on no evidence. This would be a rationale for executing
prisoners, as it is demonstrated to stop them from committing future
imagined crimes.

Yes I understand something of your viewpoint, based on your recent
post about me on Wikimedia-l saying "You're not on en:wp, so are not
part of the "us" in
question".<http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikimedia-l/2014-July/073239.html>
A bit surprising considering I have a GA review on the go.
Your analysis is not based on any evidence of things that I have
written here that would be against policy.

On most Wikimedia projects, this would be a reason to re-examine
sanctions. Wikipedia has the "standard offer" and a presumption of
reform;
it would be nice to see this positive way of thinking apply here,
rather than repeated enforcement of stereotypes.

Re: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Mailing_lists/Guidelines#Second_attempt…
Based on a thread I started at Wikimedia-l, the above general
guideline for email list moderation is being improved above, ensuring
better transparency of list moderation. I am hoping that Wikimediauk-l
will adopt this as best practice. Please do take part on meta if you
have some thoughts about improvement.
I have been moderated on this list for quite a while now, I guess it
will be forever unless a guideline for appeals is adopted. My
moderation was not started for any post on this list, the explanation
I had from David, was that he personally did not like my posts to
Wikimedia-l and so responded by moderating me here (I have never been
moderated on any other list than this one).
A key disadvantage to moderation is that my emails to this regularly
take 2 days to get posted, so I am not inclined to take part in any
active discussion - instead I just post off-list or have used
Wikimedia-l or one of the other lists that volunteers interested in
the same projects as me take part in. I have never had an email not
get posted, they just confusingly appear "pre-dated" as if they were
posted when I sent them. Of course there are advantages in spending
more time in other places rather than a UK centric email list, so it's
swings and roundabouts.

Re: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Signpost/Single
Images from my upload projects are in two Signpost sections this week,
a bit of a surprise. There is the piece on "Institutional media
uploads to Commons" with several of my uploaded images illustrating it
and being discussed, but also the "Why, they're plum identical!"
section with a Japanese painting from the Rijksmuseum getting to
Featured status.
Oddly, there is no process in place that ensures I get informed about
my uploads being nominated as Featured Pictures on Wikipedia, so
finding out about them is entirely haphazard.

Dear all,
* One of Wikimedia UK's aims is to teach underrepresented groups how to
edit Wikipedia and develop underrepresented content (e.g. Women in
Science). Wikimedia UK has been running 'Women in Science' editathons for
several years. In 2013 our editathons
<http://www.centenary.mrc.ac.uk/events/mrcroyal-societywikimedia-uk-women-in…>
received extremely positive responses from the attendees and in general.
The events were delivered in partnerships with other organisations who host
them and invite people from their networks to attend. They are also made
possible thanks to support of volunteer trainers. During 2013 we have been
getting many more enquiries that we were able to assist with, and would now
like to explore these opportunities. *
*We are now looking for a volunteer who would be interested in supporting
organisation and delivery of 2014 Women in Science events (possibly to link
with Ada Lovelace celebrations in October). This would suit someone
sympathetic to the issues of gender gap and interested in event
organisation. It's estimated the project would take place over
September-November, requiring 10-20 hours a week of time. *
*Anyone interested or wanting to find out more please contact Daria by
28th July. *
*Many thanks, *
*Daria*

Hi All,
AdaCamp <http://adacamp.org/> is a conference dedicated to increasing
women’s participation in open technology and culture. It brings women
together to build community, share skills, discuss problems with open
tech/culture communities that affect women, and find ways to address them.
It has been taking place for several years in the US and Australia, but in
2014 it is coming to Europe for the first time. The Berlin AdaCamp will be
October 11-12, 2014 at the Wikimedia Deutschland
<https://wikimedia.de/wiki/Hauptseite> offices. It will also focus strongly
on the Wikimedia community in particular.
It is a valuable opportunity for UK Wikimedians to attend a focused event
(of only about 50 attendees) where we will focus on learning practical
things and planning future projects.
If you have experience in open tech/culture, experience or knowledge of
feminism and advocacy and the ability to collaborate with others, you
should apply!
We would like to help build a community of UK Wikimedians supporting women
in open tech/culture – especially Wikimedia projects – and for that reason
we are offering scholarships for UK applicants.
To learn more about the event visit their website
<http://berlin.adacamp.org/>.
To read about the application process and find out how to receive a
scholarship, please visit this page <http://berlin.adacamp.org/apply/>.
Regards,

Hello everyone.
The House of Lords has established a Digital Skills Committee and has
called for evidence. The investigation will explore how the UK can be
prepared to compete in a global digital economy, examining issues such as
whether we're developing a workforce that is appropriately skilled for the
future in jobs that may not yet exist, and how we are encouraging people of
all ages to choose careers which will benefit the future digital era. The call
for evidence can be found here
<http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/lords-select/di…>
Wikimedia UK should consider making a submission to this committee on this
issue. Among the many groups they are asking to submit, they include four
that are of relevance: technology companies [or charities], digital
literacy groups, civil society and lifelong learning organisations. There
is plenty of time for us to make a submission as the consultation closes on
5 September. Perhaps a burst of activity after Wikimania?
Thank you,
Stevie

Hi Everyone,
As you may or may not know, I've been asked to look into the past, present
and future of the charities handling of technology. I've been looking to
obtain ideas, thoughts, and input from various technological stakeholders
within the charity on these topics.
The end goal is to produce a report with recommendations for how to
approach technology in the future.
Right now, I am interested in what YOU think. How well has the charity
handled technology (both operationally and project-wise). Do you have any
ideas for the future? Any concepts for projects the charity could adopt?
If so; please get in touch with me to air your views!
To kick things off I've put together a short survey to collect information
and hopefully get your creative juices flowing:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gMBek07XIb-vH8sViLJ9eR-eZOQAt5Vu_10NVLzP55…
It will only take 5 minutes and your response greatly appreciated.
Feel free to email me directly as well.
Cheers,
Tom
Re: http://pro.europeana.eu/pro-blog/-/blogs/sharing-multimedia-on-wikipedia-no…
Liam has just published this Europeana blog post about the first big
projects using the new GLAMwiki Toolset uploader (GWT). The main image
is one of the unusual "photochrom" prints from the 1890s that I
uploaded as a Wikimedia UK sponsored project - these hand coloured
prints feature locations from around the world and were incredibly
popular to send as gifts in that period, a time when colour
photography was still experimental; this high quality
chromolithographic process was to virtually vanish within a few years.
We are hoping that there will be a lot of interest in new GWT projects
at Wikimania (and the hackerthon beforehand) both from GLAM
professionals and keen volunteers. It's certainly worth browsing some
of the projects delivered so far that the tool has made possible,
especially if you think you might reuse some of the images. Those of
us who helped create the tool are looking forward to this transforming
Wikimedia Commons into a standard home on the internet for the public
to find high quality GLAM materials.

Hi all,
On behalf of Edward, the trainer delivering an event on 25th July
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/SHE_MUST_BE_WIKI:_Feminist_Film_Wiki-a-thon
I am sending out a call for an available trainer to help out at the
workshop.
It's an informal editathon at the Institute of Contemporary Arts - they
sound like a lovely bunch of people.
In the bag is also a film screening after the discussion, which the
trainers should be able to get you a free ticket to:
https://www.ica.org.uk/whats-on/she-must-be-seeing-things
If anyone is interested please contact Edward directly - Edward Hands <
edwardxx(a)gmail.com>.
All the best,
