Event near London office tonight

All, Any of you near the WMUK office this evening might find the following a good opportunity for photographs: http://www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2012/05/08/expect-gunfire-and-explosions-ne… The Honourable Artillery Company are doing a free barbecue and display of various military equipment and tactics from the 17th century to the present day. The museum will be open, and there'll be various displays with cannon, muskets, rifles and - of course - the cavalry. I may drop by myself and see if I can grab a few photos. Wikimania 2014

Folks, Jon has very kindly offered to open up the office the WMUK office on the Sunday morning after the AGM (that's the 13th) for a planning meeting to discuss a London bid for Wikimania 2014 if there is demand. Announcing the WIG (Wikipedia Interest Group) for UK Education

Hi all, I've created a mailing list to bring together our education contacts and volunteers who are interested in helping educational projects. Long overdue, I know. Despite the name, Wikiversitans and other Wikimedians are very much welcome. The description follows: For anyone in the UK wanting to implement or support educational projects that use Wikipedia or its sister projects such as Wikibooks and Wikiversity. The list can be used for announcements of relevant activities, and offers or requests for help in making things happen. It is a UK-focused list, not meant to duplicate the global Wikimedia in Education mailing list. To keep down traffic, the list is intended mainly for announcements rather than discussion: if you want list members' perspectives on a topic, create a post on a blog, forum or wiki and post the link. Monmouth Chartists video on Commons 'Media of the Day'

The Shire Hall's professionally produced dramatisation of the Chartist Trial is today's Wikimedia Commons Media of the Day. Not an *amazing* accolade, granted, but the video is very interesting and very professional. The Chartists were early proponents of suffrage - votes for all men, regardless of wealth or class. They were a bit before their time, and were executed for their views. The video is well worth watching! All the best, Richard

Do we have feedback on the two UK bids?

I understand that the Wikimania jury have given or will soon be giving feedback to all the unsuccessful bids. Would the bid teams be willing to share that feedback with the rest of us so that we can incorporate it into our plans for the future? Thanks!

SSL error

Hey all, Not sure who is responsible for this, or whether it is a known issue.. but donate.wikimedia.org.uk is throwing up a "Are you sure you want to visit this site" error (yup that red error page!) in Google Chrome due to an SSL certificate error. The certificate is signed for directdebit.wikimedia.org.uk, not donate.wikimedia.org.uk, so the browser considers it untrusted. Cheers, Tom

Reminder for the Coventry meetup

Hi folks, Just a quick reminder that the second Coventry meetup is this Sunday (the 6th). Coventry is nice and accessible from all over the Midlands, and from London and Manchester (in fact, you can get from Euston to Coventry in under an hour on the train), so those of you who don't live in the back of beyond have got no excuse! ;) I hope to see some of you there!
