Hello,
I read that Wikimedia India does not accept member who are not Indian nationals. This comes as a big surprise, and I don't see any reason for it. As far as I know, membership in a non-profit in India is not limited to Indian nationals.
A change whould be most welcomed.
Thanks,
Yann Forget, from Ahmedabad
I once actually thought of joining the Indian chapter because Pakistan chapter not currently exists but I couldn't able to as the membership is only for Indians. Saqib

I am not sure about your previous emails, but this one i received today,
and it's dated 2 days ago.
This is a public mailing list, anyone can subscribe. If you're not subscribed or put on moderation then an admin has to approve your posts. Sometimes it gets delayed. So what?
Nowhere it's written that posts should be approved immediately!

Ansuman, the mail arrived on the 25th. Check the archives if you need to.

Srikanth, I think we can only see/check the sent date which you say
arrived date, i.e. the actual date and time of the email when sent by the sender. We don't get to see the delivery time when approved later. *Not so sure!*
Like I just said, " this one i received today, and it's dated 2 days ago." :-)

Dear Yann,
It was not a restriction the founding EC members put in did but a limitation required by the authorities (as advised by our consultant) to get the registration of the society through.
We do know there are indophiles around the world who may want to sign up. Unfortunately we didn't have that flexibility then.
The current EC may want to check if this is allowable now.

Hi,

This question came up last February as well. Apparently, this was a restriction placed by the Registrar of Societies in Bangalore. See - http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikimediaindia-l/2013-February/009280.h...

I have no idea. I just linked to the conversation because I remember it happening and searched for the same and found it.

Warm regards,
User:Prad2609

Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone
We will need registration with Ministry of Home Affairs to allow foreign nationals to register.

Yann, as Arun and Abhijit stated. We would require approval, both from the Registrar of Societies in Karnataka as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs at Delhi. The process is a lengthy and time consuming one because it involves a lot of running around. If any changes do take place, we will let everyone know. Cheerio,
