The problem is people giving list addresses and going ahead to verify them(I dont know how they did). So If anyone sends a invite to Moksh Juneja, it will reach list. It was someother guy sometime back, I dont know how many others have used list id in primary contact of linkedin profile(Why would anyone do that ?) LinkedIn support was contacted and there was no help. The problem is list members using list ID on their profiles :| Nothing can be done.

Can mailman not be configured to automatically reject such mails? There has to be someone somewhere on the wikimedia tech team who can fix this.

Yes, this problem exists across lists, the solution given was list owners to contact the folks and get the ID removed from profiles. I did first time, this is second time, I dont know how many more folks have it Linkedin uses the primary email if invitee in header so may by pass. I think this will happen only if the invitee is also a member of list.

Hi,
Filters can be added in mailman so that mails with some keywords like "invite" can be blocked. This is done in many Free/Open source mailing lists.

This list uses "Invite" widely for meetups etc. I have added Linked*in into the list :)
