Hoi, The good news is that there is approval for the Gujarati Wikisource. We are quite happy to post a bug asking for the creation of this new Wiki but for one small detail. There is information lacking that is necessary for the creation of this new wiki.
I am happy to share this news and I hope it will not take long before I can inform you about the creation of the Gujarati Wikisource. Thanks, Gerard
Gerard, that is really very very good news. Hopefully we will see valuable heritage texts in Gujarati come into open access. I feel that each Indic language community must ask for Wikisource if not already held in that language.
Warm regards,

Yes, a Wikisource is indeed very important for every language. Many languages of India have rich literature that can be uploaded, proofread and disseminated using Wikisource, reigniting the interest in it.
The Malayalam Wikisource is a very successful project, cooperating with teachers and students to transcribe and proofread books and making literature learning fun again. Its first batch of completed texts was also published on CD. Any language of India can do that.
In fact, you can start writing content for a new Wikisource project immediately in http://wikisource.org (note that there's no language code). This is the site for beginning Wikisource projects; once they have enough content, they get their own domain, as is happening now to Gujarati.

Awesome! I do hope our Indic language communities take up this golden opportnity. What is the amount needed in Kb/documents before one can get one's own WikiProject, Amir?

We never measured it, but the bureaucracy is very small.
The focus is on the real work, not on paperwork. If you have a community of people uploading and proofreading texts and keeping the software localization complete and up to date, the rest is small details.
Here's as example from the Gujarati Wikisource: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikisource_Gujara...
(In fact, that page is relatively big. Usually a much smaller page is enough.)
The full policy for creating a project in a new language is here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Language_proposal_policy
It would be very useful to get this Language proposal policy page translated to the major languages of India, like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali, so that people who don't know English well would be able to read it and use it more easily. Anybody can do it by clicking the "Translate this page" link at the top.

Excellent news. Gujuarati Wikipedians, please take this forward. I request Arnav Sonara and Konark Ratnakar to start off.

The Hindi Wikisource could be launched as soon as there is an active community and message translations are finished. There are ~1,297 pages, but they are a mess in two categories instead of one, and nobody is working on them.

Congrats to all Gujarati Wikipedians, hoe this brings more editor to the community, please consider talking to the Malayal Wiki Community about the "Kerala Sarvavignankosam project" which brought them a lot of reasonably old and good content, I believe some similar kind of project could innervate valuable content in Gujarati and more wikimedians collaborate to work together.
