Hope this email finds you well and safe. You are aware of the very unfortunate coronavirus outbreak globally and in India. Earlier we informed you that on-site/offline CIS-A2K events were postponed.[1] In this email, we will give you some more details about the Project Tiger 2.0 community workshop.
You know Project Tiger edit-a-thon[2] has completed some time ago, and we were supposed to work on organizing a community skill development workshop. However, following WMF suggestion[3], recommendation by the central and state government in India, and after a detailed discussion with Project Tiger team, we want to inform that we can’t conduct Project Tiger workshop due to the current circumstances, and we will be exploring a new date for the workshop once life gets back to normal in India.

Dear Suswetha,
We are going through hard times, and it looks as if this crisis will take months to subside. People are under lockdown and are seeking information over the internet more frequently than ever. A lot of fake news regarding the virus and the pandemic are circulating over the internet. At the same time, many of our community members are at home, and they probably have more time than usual to devote for volunteering. Is there any possibility that we can run the Project Tiger writing contest once again, ideally, starting next month? We could perhaps give more importance to articles related to COVID-19 during the contest, but we could also work on other topics of interest as well.
Just an idea - I would like to know what the community and CIS think about this.

Hi Netha,
I am writing here as a Wikimedia volunteer, not as a A2K advisor.
For medical related articles, contests and other forms of mass editing events might prove dangerous.
We all know, that Indic language Wikipedias are not curated or reviewed properly due to lack of manpower and other reasons. Unlike English Wikipedia, Indic language medical articles are full of misinformations and false claims. The articles, if not reviewed and corrected by medical professionals, might prove detrimental to readers who, by following any misinformation and false informatiom written in the article, may become ill and may die, in extreme cases. That would lead to serious medicolegal issue to the editor who have provided that kind of information and that responsibility may come to the organizers of that event. For example, any COVID-19 related misinformation will lead one to jail in West Bengal.
For this reason, personally, I am strongly against this kind of mass-editing of health related articles by non-experts.

Dear Bodhi,
I see your point and it is indeed valid. What if we continue Project Tiger as it is, not focusing on articles related to healthcare? And what are your thoughts about medical professionals (such as myself) creating short versions of English Wikipedia articles which can then be used for translating to Indian languages? In that case, we can ensure that no misinformation creeps in, at least in the translated parts of the article. COVID-19 related articles give scientific information, so I don't think we miss the cultural nuances while translating them as opposed to starting articles from the scratch.

I have no opinion on next Project Tiger as I don't edit Wikipedia anymore.
For your project to translate short versions, that seems fine as they are created by you or other medical professionals. Now, if someone incorporate wrong or unreferenced information into that translation, that's his or her responsibility medicolegally.
