Dear all,
We hope that you are doing well. We are happy to inform you that this
year CIS-A2K
is planning to reactivate its Train the Trainer
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Events/Train_the_Trainer_Program>
(TTT) initiative. This effort aims to empower Wikimedians with the
necessary skills to support their Wikimedia communities effectively.
Through this program, we aim to enhance the capacity of Wikimedians and
enable them to make a positive impact across the communities they serve.
Our ultimate goal is to empower Wikimedians to create a network of
knowledge sharing, identifying opportunities for growth and facilitating
Wikimedia communities to flourish.
The Train-the-Trainer (TTT) event has been held seven times between 2013 to
2020. This event is part of our effort to build community leaders and
contribute to a healthy and safe Wikimedia community. We are working on a
new model that aligns with the ongoing global discussions on leadership
development and aims to meet the specific needs of our Wikimedia
communities. The Kerala Wikimedians User Group will be the
co-host/co-organizer group for Train The Trainer 2023
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Events/Train_the_Trainer_Program/20…>
(the page is under construction) which will be involved in the planning and
implementation of the initiative.
We invite Wikimedians to apply for scholarships to participate in Train the
Trainer 2023. The scholarship form is available here
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScRqLnCvFLehPI7QQMITtzd5WLqY1k3e9t…>.
The dates for submitting the scholarship form are 1 August to 14 August
2023. We encourage Wikimedians who are interested to contribute towards
their language communities to fill this form. Please note that individuals
who have already participated in an earlier iteration of TTT cannot apply
for the scholarship and their application will not be considered.
The event would be held by the end of September or the beginning of October
2023 (the days of the event will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday). The final
dates and venue will be announced soon.
We will be unable to consider applications from Wikimedians based outside
of India for TTT 2023 due to logistical and compliance-related issues.
If you have any questions or queries you can contact us at a2K(a)cis-india.org
or nitesh(a)cis-india.org.
Regards,
Nitesh (CIS-A2K)
Dear All,
We hope this email finds you well. You might already know that CIS-A2K is
conducting Indic Community Monthly Engagement Calls to boost collaboration
among Indic-language Wikimedia communities and provide a platform for
Indic-language Wikimedians to connect with individuals involved in various
initiatives.
The purpose of these calls is to bring the community together to discuss
and interact about important topics. We believe that by connecting
individuals from diverse backgrounds and projects, we can identify projects
that are relevant to other communities and leverage online platforms for
engagement.
Our first call was held on June 3, 2023, with the Let's Connect group. The
second call under this initiative is on July 14, 2023, we would like to
invite you to join us for our upcoming call about the Leadership
Development Working Group.
The Leadership Development Working Group has been actively working for over
a year and has updated its documentation on Meta. The group has also
gathered feedback from the broader community. This call will help promote
awareness and facilitate learning about the Leadership Development Plan
developed by the working group.
Details of the Indic Community Monthly Engagement Call:

fruitful.
Thank you for considering our invitation. We look forward to you joining us

Dear community members,
Change is the only constant.
I wanted to take a moment to depart from my usual communications to you, to
share that 30 June 2023 will be my last day at the Wikimedia Foundation.
The Movement Strategy & Governance (MSG) team stands dissolved.
The past two years have been a whirlwind journey & I continue to be amazed
by the persistence, resilience, dedication, and kindness of our collective
South Asian community. I have had the privilege of meeting and knowing many
of you during WikiConference India 2023 and through online meetups.
Although my official role ends here, know that I will continue to remain
your ally and advocate for community development. Let’s keep pushing
boundaries, breaking barriers, and making a difference together.
Best regards,
Chitraparna Sinha

Hello everyone!
My name is Amrit Sufi, I am an Angika Wikimedian. I contribute primarily on
Commons, Wikisource and Angika Wikipedia. So far I've carried two projects
funded by Wikimedia: a toolkit
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Oral_Culture_Transcription_Toolkit>
and a needs
assessment research
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Needs_assessment_for_documentation_and_revi…>
project.
Based on the findings of the research, I am preparing a project proposal
focusing on locally relevant cultural content, specifically oral folk
literature- an aspect common to the diverse culture of India. Folk songs
are under the risk of loss with time and are not well represented on
Wikimedia projects.
I am sharing with you a few links to Angika folksongs
<https://wikisource.org/wiki/Category:%E0%A4%85%E0%A4%82%E0%A4%97%E0%A4%BF%E…>,
uploaded on Commons, their transcription on Wikisource, used as reference
for Angika Wikipedia articles, to clarify the model that I plan to work on
along with collaborators. A similar project based in Nigeria is the Igbo
dance communities project
<https://diff.wikimedia.org/2023/05/08/aid-project-for-a-living-tradition-wh…>
has
documented a variety of Igbo dances and documented them on Wikimedia
projects. In the aforementioned project, I plan to work with Wikimedians
and language enthusiasts on creating audio-visuals and bringing them on
Wikimedia projects. This would be a small step in supporting the arrival of
various forms of knowledge on Wikimedia projects from India.
Feel free to reach out and ask questions!
Thanks,
Amrit Sufi
