Releasing a small tool to explore wikipedia users contributions

Last week, we had a Indic Wikisource Proofreadthon 2020 event. see here for full details https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Indic_Wikisource_Proofreadthon_2020 Though I did not participate in this event, (feels sad for this. Life is too messy nowadays), I thought to build a small tool to give report on any wikipedia user’s contribution on a given wikisite for a given date range. It may help to calculate, measure, decide on the contributions for such competitions. Mediawiki has a good API to fetch user contributions. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Usercontribs Get all edits by a user. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/API:Usercontribs For my wonder, there was a sample python code on the same page. The code gave only 500 results. I wrote a loop to get the data batch by batch till all the data is received. Published the tool here – https://github.com/tshrinivasan/wiki_user_contributions_report How to run? python3 get_user_contributions.py <language> <wikisite> <username> <start_date> <end_date> This will give the data as a CSV file. Used a csv-to-html converter utility to convert this to a web page with all the data in a sortable table. While the objective behind the suggestion is prudential and well appreciated, the communication of grants from individual community and following chain of responses and replies will flood the email box.  Being from a particular language or working on particular project, A volunteer might not be interest in detailed of the project. So I believe, inclusion of grant proposal may not be included in India list. It may be kept at community level mailing list only.  However, In order to keep the Indic communities groups abreast, a fortnightly or  a monthly email can be sent on Indic List, along with link. Interested person can follow the link to get more information. Whether it is a state-level, project-level, language-level etc, or whether it is a rapid grant, project grant etc it would be good to see the plan details on this mailing list in advance. It will ensure greater visibility, and it will also ensure the community's understanding/knowing of each other's projects. If we can have a practice like this, we can inform Wikimedia, or CR team or relevant support structure(s) as an India community practice. This post is in my personal capacity. Mini edit-a-thon: Wikipedia 20th anniversary celebration edit-a-thon

Dear Wikimedians, Happy New Year to all, I wish this year will be full of prosperity for all. We started a series of mini edit-a-thons, recently. We have already completed two edit-a-thons with good participation. As you all know, Wikipedia’s 20th Birthday is on 15 January 2021. It’s a big celebration for all the Wikimedians. So, it’s our duty to make special arrangements for that day. CIS-A2K is organising another mini edit-a-thon to celebrate this occasion. It will also be 2 days long and will be on 9 and 10 January 2021. Because on 15 January, there will be a working day. This event is Wikipedia focused and we will create articles regarding various language Wikipedias and other encyclopaedias. Hello all, Wishing you Happy New Year! One month ago or last month, I started a thread on the mailing-list for the purpose of sharing “On-Wiki Contribution”. Let’s share our on-wiki work which we did during last month on the volunteer capacity. I am sharing my past month contribution below; - I am committed to 100wikidays challenge, under this challenge I developed one article each day on Punjabi Wikipedia. - Created 2 articles on Punjabi Wikipedia during Festive Season 2020 edit-a-thon. - Edited few articles on Wikipedia as well. - Also did some admin works.
