Hello everyone,
The Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines Revisions committee
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Universal_Code_of_Conduc…>
is
requesting comments regarding the *Revised Enforcement Draft Guidelines for
the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC)*
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Universal_Code_of_Conduc…>.
This review period will be open from *8 September 2022 until 8 October
2022.*
The Committee collaborated to revise these draft guidelines based on input
gathered from the community discussion period from May through July and the
community vote that concluded in March 2022. The revisions are focused on
the following four areas:
1. To identify the type, purpose, and applicability of the UCoC training;
2. To simplify the language for more accessible translation and
comprehension by non-experts;
3. To explore the concept of affirmation, including its pros and cons;
4. To review the balancing of the privacy of the accuser and the accused
The Committee requests comments and suggestions about these revisions by *8
October 2022*. From there, the Revisions Committee anticipates further
revising the guidelines based on community input.

Everyone may share comments in several places. Facilitators welcome
comments in any language on the Revisions Guideline Talk Page. Comments can
also be shared on talk pages of translations, at local discussions, or
during conversation hours. There are planned live discussions about the
UCoC enforcement draft guidelines.

Dear Indian Wikimedians,
As many of you may have known, one of our fellow Wikimedian was arrested by
Uttar Pradesh Police in October 2020. His name is Siddique Kappan (His
wikimedia username is User:Sidheeq). He is from Kerala, and he was active
in Wikimedia projects (mainly in Malayalam Wikipedia) until his arrest.
Incidently he is a journalist and he was arrested from the home of Hathras
rape and murder victim while reporting the victim Dalit girl's family
members. UP Police has slapped Sedition, Terrorism as well as UAPA charges
against him.
Kappen is diabetic and now COVID positive. He was admitted to hospital only
after he collapsed in the jail cell. With his deteriorating health, it was
accused that Kappan was chained to hospital bed like an animal. Today's
news reports say that he is in critical condition. (You could always google
"Siddique Kappan")
As a tone deaf people I don't expect anything from this mail, I just wish
to share the information.
Stay Inside, Stay Complementary (non-critical), Stay safe, Stay healthy.

Hello Wikimedians,
As you might have noticed already from our central banners, Wiki Loves
Monuments 2022 has started from today and will continue until the end of
this month. If you are interested to participate in the competition and
upload photographs of built heritage structures, please visit this link -
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:WLMIN2022
We are also excited to announce that our 3-members national jury team is
finalized and honored to introduce them with you all. The jury members are -
- Biswarup Ganguly - a veteran Wikimedian from the West Bengal community
who has contributed immensely for open knowledge through his documentary
photographs of life, culture and heritage of Bengal, especially of Kolkata
and surroundings for around 13 years. His photographs on Wikimedia Commons
are frequently being used in different news media outlets and by book
authors
- Humayunn Niaz Ahmed Peerzaada - a professional photographer based in
Mumbai, Maharashtra who has been in the field of photography since 2007.
Though Humayunn has been involved in photography of all genres, he
specializes in architecture, table top & making 360° virtual panoramas. His
two series of panoramas of built heritage of West Bengal have earned him
wide accolades.
- Sugato Mukherjee - a photographer and writer from West Bengal with
bylines in BBC, Al Jazeera, Nat Geo Traveller, Deutsche Welle, Mint and
several international inflight magazines. His coffee table book on Ladakh
was published in 2013 and received critical acclaim. Winner of multiple
photography prizes, Sugato's documentary project on the sulphur miners of
East Java was awarded distinctions by the UNESCO.
You can find them here -

Greetings Wikimedians,
This email is a reminder that today is the last day to fill out the survey
form[1]. As of today, we have received 43 responses to the form, which will
be used to create a report for the grant proposal application. Although
today is the last date to fill out the survey form, we will be accepting
responses from members who are interested in joining the organizing team.
We also request you to go through the Meta-Wiki page[2] created for initial
conversations and endorsements to support if you are happy with the idea of
having the next WikiConference India in 2023.
Please note that we will be using the budget from the previous grant
proposal used for planning WCI 2020[3] and adjust the costs according to
the current situation. We will also be sharing the draft of the grant
proposal with you all shortly.
Looking forward to hearing from you and taking collective steps towards
having us all together in 2023!
Thanks & Regards,
Nivas, Nitesh & Neechalkaran

Hello Wikimedians!
We are excited to announce that the West Bengal Wikimedians User Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/West_Bengal_Wikimedians> is going to
organize Wiki Loves Monuments in India
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2022_in_Ind…>
this year again during the entire month of September for the 5th
consecutive time. We have a list of news to share.
- This year, we have Amitabha Gupta
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Amitabha_Gupta> as a new member
in our organizing team
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2022_in_Ind…>.
He will be replacing Sumit Surai
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Sumitsurai>, who will be busy
in his personal life during the competition and so, will not be able to
volunteer as an organizer. The rest of the team remains the same as last
year. The team members had their preparatory meeting and distributed the
responsibilities last weekend.
- Like previous years, we are interested in adding more and more data
about Indian monuments, both designated and non-designated ones, on
Wikidata because the WLM lists of monuments
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_in_India/Mo…>
are fetched directly from there. If you find monuments from your locality
or district or state that are present on Wikidata but are not
reflected on our
list
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_in_India/Mo…>,
please let me know, so that we can include them for the competition.
- This year, the tables of monuments will look different from the last
years. The co-ordinates will be displayed as dynamic maps and the districts
where the monuments will be located will have their locator images, if
available. An example of such a table is here
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_in_India/Mo…>.
However, many monuments still lack coordinates and you can help to add them
on respective Wikidata items.
- Unlike previous years, we are looking for Indian-only jury members
both inside and outside of the Wikimedia movement with experience in
documentary photography of monuments and heritage structures. We have felt
that this decision might bring less known Indian monuments in the
limelight. The jury members will be declared during the event,
- The national prizes will be slightly different from the previous year.
Details can be found here
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2022_in_Ind…>
.
- We have temporarily closed the feature to upload photographs directly
from Wikidocumentaries until further notice as the site is undergoing major
maintenance.
We will be sharing more updates and news in the coming days related to the
event.
In the meantime, make your plans and get ready with your photographic
equipment.

Bodhisattwa
