Dear India WM Community,
Hope this message finds you well. As some of you may already know, our Global
Reach <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Global_Reach> team builds strategic
partnerships in emerging markets to increase awareness and readership of
the Wikimedia projects, with Wikipedia Zero being one of the programs we
spearhead.
In order to better inform our projects and partnerships, we are conducting
phone surveys to help understand Wikipedia’s usage in the regions we work
on. We started with Ghana
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Global_Reach/Ghana_Survey>, followed by
Mexico <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Global_Reach/Mexico_Survey> and
Nigeria, and India is next. The survey will begin in the coming days, and
6000 people will be contacted on their mobile phones with the option of
answering the survey in the most commonly used languages in their state.
We have partnered with a Ghana-based organization called VotoMobile
<https://www.votomobile.org/>, who has considerable experience conducting
this kind of survey. Our goal is to learn more about Wikipedia awareness,
the use of internet-capable phones and the main barriers to Wikipedia’s
usage. As we have done with the previous countries, the survey data will be
publicly available on our Meta page once the survey is completed.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us in case you have further
questions or comments. Moreover, please note that this phone survey will
run around the same time as the field survey in India being conducted under
the New Readers <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/New_Readers> project.
Warm Regards,
Smriti

Hey everyone,
Wanted to provide an update on the upcoming Wikimedia Foundation’s New
Readers research in India.
We have taken feedback from a few folks, and enjoyed a good chat with
Yohann Thomas on priority research needs.
Reflecting these, we will be in India from June 13 to 27. The research will
focus on:
-
Urban, semi-urban, and rural internet users
-
in Hindi, Tamil, and English languages
-
From education, technology, and rural industry backgrounds
-
Around the Delhi (including nearby Noida and Gurgaon) and Chennai areas
We're really looking forward to visiting India and learning more about the
many different kinds of internet users there, and of course, to potentially
meeting some of you during our travels! If you are in or around Delhi /
Chennai, please email me so we can connect.
Warmly,
Joe Sutherland

Greetings from CIS-A2K.
List of selected participants for Train-the-Trainer 2016 has been
published *here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Events/Train_the_Trainer_Program/20…>*.
Following criteria were followed while making the selection:
1. On Wiki and Off Wiki participation and contribution.
2. Not more than two participants from a language community.
3. Application form
4. First time participants were given preference over Wikimedians who have
already participated.
Due to the incredibly large number of applications that we received it
would be difficult for us to write to all applicants individually.
Please write to us if there are any queries.
Regards,
Tito Dutta
