Hi,
Wikimedia Deutschland compiled a Chapter's Dialogue Report which is out now - https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fc/Wikimedia_Deutschland_C…
Reading this raises pertinent questions but also tells me that India is in a similar position as the Movement globally. It is to me, slightly a relief. There is hope.
Warm regards,
Pradeep

Hi Mykola,
Personally, I have no problems in having these results published in
Commons, unless Abihirami prefers it that way.
Thanks,
Ade S

Dear Wikimedia India Chapter members and other interested stakeholders in
the list,
Dear members,
The Executive committee of Wikimedia India has held an emergency
teleconference on their official DSNL channel on 31 Aug 2014. As salient
items on the agenda, the following topics were discussed and decided upon:
1. Earlier, Radhakrishna Arvapally, a senior chapter member and former
Chair of Bangalore SIG, was co-opted by an emergency resolution. The
resolution was passed unanimously. The resolution had also proposed another
senior member. However, due to heavy personal engagements, the second
nominee requested the EC to exempt from such considerations.
Radhakrishna was invited to the telecon and was officially welcomed to be
part of the EC.
2. Jayanta Nath, a senior Wikipedian from Kolkata and EC member, was
unanimously elected as the new President of the Wikimedia India Chapter.
Also, Radhakrishna Arvapally and Viswanathan Prabhakaran were elected as
the new Secretary and Treasurer of the chapter respectively.
3. Any decision about hiring is kept on hold for now. The current EC agreed
together that the opinion of the new EC (emerging through the upcoming
general elections) should also be taken on-board for a major decision like
this, since they are the ones to deal with the newly hired candidate(s)for
a longer term.
4. Another extra ordinary EC Telecon was scheduled to be conducted
tentatively on 02 September 2014, 9.00 PM to take up other urgent matters
pending for decisions.
This is for the general information for all chapter members and other
interested stakeholders.
Thank You,
Jayanta Nath
President
Wikimedia India Chapter
Hi Mykola,
Please find attached document containing list of images URL - that have
been shortlisted from India.
Let me know if any other information is required.
Thanks,

Can the FOSS community save 197 endangered Indian languages?
<http://opensource.com/community/14/7/save-endangered-language-today>
Hi,
It is perhaps worth considering a format of having multiple user groups model in India rather than having one central Wikimedia India Chapter.
I do not think that the Chapter in its current form is representative of the Wikimedia Community in India. I have asked the Chapter to hold membership drives in other language wikis and other regions but this does not seem to have taken off. It has been 4 years since the Chapter was formed.
The downside would be that several groups will have to interact with state governments in their respective states but I think this will make them understand and respect the Executive Committee's work more.
I think this is worth considering in the present scenario.
Warm regards,
Pradeep Mohandas

Dear All,
I'm happy to share with you that '22nd Cochrane Colloquium', an annual celebration of Cochrane Collaboration is going to take place in Hyderabad this year. Cochrane Collaboration is an independent, non-for profit, international organisation. It helps provide evidence-based, relevant, systematic, up-to-date reviews to people on health which is widely referred by healthcare-professionals, patients and general public.
Last year in the Colloquium, there were nearly 2000 scientists from around the world in Quebec where Cochrane and Wikipedia initiated a partnership to populate Wikipedia articles with evidence from Systematic Reviews. This partnership was initiated on the Wikipedia front by Dr. James and his team of Wiki Project Med Foundation. As a part of it there has been appointment of Sydney Poore as a Wikipedian-In-Residence. For more. The Colloquium is going to happen from 21st - 26th September this year.
A Pre-colloquium Symposium 'Wikipedia and Cochrane' is planned on 21st Sept. Cochrane Collaboration has offered free entries for upto 50 Wikipedians to this session!
