ഒരു കാര്യം കൂടി സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ മറന്നു. ഈ വാർത്താപത്രിക പൂർണ്ണമായും സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയറായ ഓപ്പണോഫീസ് റൈറ്ററിലാണു് ടൈപ്പ് സെറ്റ് ചെയ്തത്.
വിക്കിപീഡിയയിൽ സംഭാവനചെയ്യുന്നവരൊടു് സ്വതന്ത്ര/കുത്തക സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയർ എന്ന വകഭേദം ആരും കാണിക്കാറില്ല. എല്ലാ ഒ.എസ്/ആപ്ലീക്കേഷനുകൾ ഉപയോഗികുന്നവരോടും ഒരേ സമീപനമാണു് വിക്കിയിൽ സ്വീകരിക്കാറു്. എങ്കിലും സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയറിനു് വിക്കിമീഡിയ ഫൗണ്ടേഷൻ പ്രത്യേക പരിഗണനനൽകുന്നു. അതിനാൽ തന്നെ ഈ വാർത്താപത്രികയുടെ എല്ലാ പരിപാടികളും ചെയ്തത് സ്വതന്ത്രസൊഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയർ ആയ ഓപ്പണോഫീസ് റൈറ്റർ ഉപയോഗിച്ചാ‍ണു് എന്നതിൽ അഭിമാനിക്കുന്നു. 6 വിവിധ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഭാഷാ ലിപികൾ ആണു് ആ ഡോക്കുമെന്റിൽ ഒരുമിച്ച് കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തത്. ഒരു പ്രശ്നവും ഇല്ലാതെ എല്ലാ ലിപികളും നന്നായി റെൻ‌ഡർ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു. 32 താളും നിരവധി ചിത്രങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായിട്ടും 3.5 എം.ബി മാത്രമായിരുന്നു അവസാന പി.ഡി.എഫിന്റെ സൈസ്.
ഇതിനു് മുൻപ് നമ്മൾ പുറത്തിറക്കിയ പതിവ് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ കൈപ്പുസ്തകംhttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ml/1/10/MalayalamWiki_FAQ_2010_April_17.pdfമറ്റൊരു സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയറായ ലാറ്റെക്കിലാണു് ചെയ്തത്.
സ്വതന്ത്രസോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയറിനെ കുറിച്ച് 24 മണിക്കൂറും പ്രസംഗിക്കുകയും മലയാളത്തിൽ എന്തെങ്കിലും ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യണം എങ്കിൽ ഉടൻ പേജ് മേക്കറും, മൈക്രോസൊഫ്റ്റിന്റെ വേർഡും മറ്റും തപ്പി പോകുന്ന സ്ഥിതിയിൽ നിന്ന് വ്യസ്തമായിരിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞു.
ഈയടുത്ത് സ്വതന്ത്രസോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയർ പ്രവർത്തകർ കേളത്തിൽ നിന്നു് മലയാളത്തിൽ പുറത്തിറക്കിയ വാർത്താപത്രിക പേജ് മേക്കറിൽ (അതും ആസ്കി ഫോണ്ടുപയോഗിച്ച്) എന്ന് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ വാക്കും പ്രവർത്തിയും തമ്മിലുള്ള വ്യത്യാസം ഓർത്തു പോയി. കേരളത്തിൽ ഇപ്പോഴും മലയാളം റ്റൈപ്പ്സെറ്റിങ്ങ് പേജ്‌മേക്കർ/കോറൽ‌ഡ്രോ/ ആസ്കി എന്നിവയിൽ കുടുങ്ങി കിടക്കുന്നു. ഈ സ്ഥിതിക്ക് വ്യത്യാസം വരുത്താൻ ഉത്തരവാദിത്വമുള്ള സ്വതന്ത്രസൊഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയർ പ്രവർത്തകർ തന്നെ ഇപ്പോഴും ഈ തലതിരിഞ്ഞ പ്രവർത്തിയെ പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുയും പേജ്‌മേക്കറിലും മറ്റും ഡോക്കുമെന്റുകൾ പുറത്തിറക്കുന്നതിനെ പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നത് ഖേദകരമാണു്.
സ്വതന്ത്രസോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയറിനെ പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കാൻ സംഘടന ഉണ്ടാക്കി നടക്കുന്നവർക്ക് തന്നെ അതിനെ വിശ്വാസമില്ല എന്നത് അത്യന്തം ഖേദകരമാണു്. പലപ്പോഴും സ്വകാര്യമായി ഇവരിൽ പലരും കാര്യം നടക്കണമെങ്കിൽ വിൻഡോസ് തന്നെ വേണം എന്ന് പറയുകയും ചെയ്യും.. :)
കേരളത്തിലെ അച്ചടിശാലകൾ ഇപ്പോഴും വർഷങ്ങൾ പിന്നിലാണു് എന്ന് പറയാതെ വയ്യ. ബാംഗ്ലൂരിലും മറ്റും നല്ല അച്ചടിശാലകളിൽ ഏത് ലിപിയിൽ തയ്യാ‍ാറാക്കിയ ഡോക്കുമെന്റും പി.ഡി.എഫ് ഫയലായി കൊടുത്താൽ അച്ചടി നടക്കും. കഴിഞ്ഞ വിക്കി സംഗമത്തിനു് വേണ്ടി തയ്യാറാക്കിയ പതിവു് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ എന്ന കൈ പുസ്തകംhttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ml/1/10/MalayalamWiki_FAQ_2010_April_17.pdfപൂർണ്ണമായും ലാട്ടെക്കിലാണു് ടൈപ്പ് സെറ്റ് ചെയ്തത്. അത് അച്ചടിക്കാൻ എറണാകുളത്തെ അച്ചടി ശാലകൾ കയറിയിറങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ ഉണ്ടായ അനുഭവം വിശെഷമാണു്.

LaTex എന്നു് കേൾക്കുമ്പോൾ അമ്പരക്കുന്നു. - മലയാളം തനതു് ലിപിയിൽ (യൂണിക്കൊഡിൽ) ദിവസങ്ങളോളും പണിയെടുത്ത് തയ്യാറാക്കിയ ഡോക്കുമെന്റ്, *പേജ് മേക്കറിൽ പുതിയ ലിപി ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ആസ്കി ഫോണ്ടിൽ *തയ്യാറാക്കി പെട്ടെന്ന് തന്നെ പ്രിന്റ് ചെയ്ത് സഹായിക്കാം എന്ന വിചിത്രമായ നിർദ്ദേശവും കിട്ടി.
ചുരുക്കി പറഞ്ഞാൽ ഏറ്റവും അവസാനം യാതൊരു നിവർ‌ത്തിയും ഇല്ലാഞ്ഞ്, വിക്കി സംഗമത്തിനായി, *സാധാരണ ലെസർ പ്രിന്ററിൽ പ്രിന്റെടുത്ത് സ്റ്റാപ്പിൾ ചെയ്യേണ്ടി വന്നു*.
ഇത്തരം സ്ഥിതിവിശേഷം മാറ്റാൻ ബാദ്ധ്യതയുള്ള സ്വതന്ത്ര സൊഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയർ പ്രവർത്ത്കർ തന്നെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്വങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് ഒളിച്ചോടുകയും, അവർ പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന സൊഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയറുകളെ അവർക്കു തന്നെ വിശ്വാസമില്ല എന്ന് കാണിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത് അത്യന്തം ഖേദഖരമാണു്. ഈ കാരണങ്ങൾക്ക് കൊണ്ടു് തന്നെയാണു് കേരളത്തിലെ ഡി.റ്റി.പിയും, അച്ചടി ശാലകളും ഇപ്പൊഴും പേജ്‌മേക്കറിലും/കോറൽ ഡ്രോയുലും/ആസ്കി ഫോണ്ടിലും മറ്റും കുടുങ്ങി കിടക്കുന്നത്.

Our hard work for the past 2 months to release the first version of Wikimedia India newsletter is coming to an end today.
Please find attached the Print Quality PDF of the finalized version of Wikimedia India Newsletter for your reference. We are officially releasing the newsletter at 7:00 PM in the Bangalore Wikimeetup.
This newsletter is the result of the ideas, suggestions, and feedback that you had been provided by you during the last 2 months. Finally Indian wikipedia community has come together for a common purpose. This is just a starting. We have a long way to go.
Each language community (8 communities as of now) has helped by providing content about the respective language community. Some communities could not join as their communities are not strong enough to provide news to the newsletter. Hope they will join soon.

So we are done with the first release. So what next?
Eventhough we cannot think of a monthly newsletter now, we need to aim atleast for a quaterly newsletter. Taking this point in into account, we are proposing a list for regular content collation and newsletter coordination. This list will contain the core editorial team and two volunteers from each wikipedia. The volunteer nominations can be suggested by the respective wikipedia community.
The role of the volunteers from the language wikipedias would be to conduit for collating content on events, happenings and plans of those respective wikipedias. The community could choose to rotate these nomiees as they deem appropriate. Please send your queries regarding the mailing list to Arun Ram (arunram25@gmail.com mailto:arunram25@gmail.com).

Junaid P.V has done the type setting and the template design of this newsletter. Without his support and hardwork this newsletter would not have seen as it is today. Rajesh Odayanchal has designed front and back cover pages.He specially created an Indian language map for this newsletter. Thanks to him.
