Dear Satdeep, Soni,
it is extremely agonizing and disappointing that a number of active
wikimedians from Malayalam Community have been avoided even after their
willing to be constrained to remain within the scholarship funds and
accommodating more community members without disrupting the overall
scholarship selection process. :( It is quite surprising that the WCI
organizers simply sidelined a generous step by the scholarship winners from
Malayalam community by being ready to surrender their privilege of a two
way flight journey and instead take a cheap second sleeper class train so
that the overall costs would be still within the allowable estimate. We are
further aggrieved that even in the second round selection process (after
the dead line for response on 14th of this month) no more person from
ml.wiki seems to have been selected.
Even with such prevailing scenario, we are willing to abide by your
restrictions. However, we accept your offer regarding the possibility of
participating in the conference even by those who were denied scholarships
if they could submit befitting presentations, papers or panel discussions.
In addition to those already eligible for the scholarships, eight more
people from our community will submit their presentations. They are also
ready to attend WCI along with our eligible team and meet their traveling
expense separately without a scholarship from the WCI funds.
Our community en masse is now gathering together to assist these extra
members by contributing funds to this cause through their own humble
offerings and ensure that we would still be participating as a whole
delegation of the community. You may recall that Malayalam communityโs
strength has been always vested upon our unity and quest for consensus. We
would rather not compromise that for anything else no matter how important
or eventful.
Hence, our sincere request to you now is that, you may make provisions for
their free accommodation, registration and food expenses and comply the
earlier offers regarding that aspect. You may also give freedom to all of
us, the already selected applicants, to book our flight or train tickets by
ourselves and at our own risk and reimburse the same when we arrive at the
venue. This will help us to book ticket along with those non-selected
persons and facilitate our journey to be conducted in one batch. In the
process, we will ensure that the costs are as minimal as practically
possible.
Kindly consider the two requests above and respond with a positive gesture
from your side at the earliest as a means to build up solidarity and
togetherness among us.
If agreeable to these requests, please confirm of the same at the earliest
so that we can proceed with the bookings with the most economical rates
from our booking agents or directly from the carriers.
Thank you all.

Dear friends,
We are happy to share the consolidated newsletter for May and June. Apologies for missing out the former, and also for this long newsletter that is not in your language.
Train-the-trainer and Mediawiki training for Indian language Wikimedians
After two iterations of the Train the Trainer in 2013 (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Events/Train_the_Trainer_Program/20โฆ) and 2015 (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Events/Train_the_Trainer_Program/20โฆ) , CIS-A2K organised the third programme during June 15-17 at Bengaluru. The Mediawiki training was designed to help groom technical leadership skills of the technical contributors of the communities. A total of 45 participants, that were selected by a collaborative consultation with the community, took part in these events. The trainers for both the events consisted of subject experts from the Wikimedia community, the free knowledge movement, the free and open source software community and CIS-A2K programme staff.
Check the event page for more details of Train-the-trainer (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Events/Train_the_Trainer_Program/20โฆ) and Mediawiki training (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CIS-A2K/Events/MediaWiki_Training).
Community celebrates birthday of Odia Wikipedia and Odia Wiktionary (by Chinmayee Mishra Community member; Subhashish Panigrahi, CIS-A2K; and Sailesh Patnaik, CIS-A2K)
With the Odia Wikipedia and its sister projects, a handful of dedicated volunteer editors are taking the Odia language to the world outside. The editor community that has recently celebrated Odia Wikipediaโs 14th anniversary in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India is collectively growing two more projects; Odia Wikisource, an online library that already has over 300 volumes of text, and Odia Wiktionary, an online dictionary that has over 100,000 entries. With these live projects and more projects in the pipeline, this community is bringing a digital revolution in Odia by sharing valuable content online and creating many language tools inside and outside the Wikimedia projects.

Wikipedia articles form a criterion for quality when they have more images, illustrations, and citations, etc. An article without these is considered dull. Hence images and external links form a criterion for quality of articles on Wikipedias. This blog post tries to analyse the current scenario of CIS-A2K's five focus language areas and indicates the state of images and links.
