All,
As you may have heard, Freenode found some compromised servers on their
networks. Network traffic, including SSL traffic, may have been sniffed by
a third party.
This likely affects many Wikimedia IRC users, including users who do not
speak English, so please forward this notice and translate as needed for
the benefit of other Wikimedians.
If you have not changed your nickserv password on September 15 or later,
please do so now.
>From the Freenode blog:
"Before changing your password, please check your email address in /msg
nickserv info and, if needed, update it โ see /msg nickserv help set email
(remember to check your new email for the verification key). This will
ensure that we can send you a password reset email should, for whatever
reason, your password change not work properly. If you have no email set on
your account or an email set that you cannot access, we cannot send
password resets to you, so do please keep this up-to-date.
"To change your password use /msg nickserv set password newpasshere
"Since traffic may have been sniffed, you may also wish to consider any
channel keys or similar secret information exchanged over the network."
Please direct questions to Freenode IRC ops. They are voiced in the
#freenode channel.

Sir,
*โPower is gained by sharing knowledge not hoarding itโ*
Inspired by the Open Access Movement, Catalyzed by Mozilla across the
globe, Mozilla Community in association with the Cochin University of
Science And Technology, under the Center for Innovation Technology Transfer
and Industrial Collaboration(CITTIC) Cell has decided to host a three day
MAKER PARTY to initiate a transition of users to makers from the 20th-22nd
of September, 2014.The event follows a simple format that of a festival,
where all the inventors, users, scholars, coders will be interacting and
sharing knowledge through innovative involvements.
Mozilla is a global, nonprofit organization, community driven, dedicated to
building free, open source products like the Firefox web browser. Our
mission is to promote openness, innovation & opportunity on the Web Maker
Party is Mozilla's global campaign in bringing about this change. Through
thousands of community-run events around the world, Maker Party unites
educators, organizations and enthusiastic web users with hands-on learning
and making. Maker Party 2014 was kick-started by President Obama at White
House Maker Faire this June. From June 15 - Sept 15, Mozilla Foundation is
hosting a Global Maker Party (https://webmaker.org/en-US/party/) Maker
Party inculcates and spreads the โLearning by Makingโ culture among the
masses.
*The three day event unrolls in three main venues:*
1. Teaching Stations:
*โTo teach is great, but to inspire is divine*โ
Hand on classes by trained makers, students in all new cutting edge
technologies. Ranging from high end electronics to basic household
activities that require expertise. About 40+ areas will be teach/train
during the event.
2.Exhibition:
*โAn art exhibition can be engaging, fun and deeply intellectually
satisfying and seriousโ*
Kerala being the new entrepreneurial hub in south, this could be one
platform to bring all new age technologies, products like FIN, 3D Printers
under one roof. This could help throw some inspiration to young
entrepreneurs. 50+ stalls will be up for the audience.
3. Success tale:
*โFrom the horseโs mouthโ*
Successful, proved entrepreneurs will be sharing their views, stories with
an interactive crowd over 3 days.
4. Activities and Fest
*โLearn from the world around youโ*The event format is all like a festival.
We are planing to bring many fun/teaching activities to engage the
audience.
In this context, it is with high hopes that we look forward to your
organization to partner with us, and help in gathering the needed
resources.
We welcome you to run teaching stations that promote wikimedia. Stalls like
teaching how to edit wiki will help. The stalls have to be run for two days
(21,22) and the format of the teaching stations are just like getting start
intros - means course duration must be between 15 mints to 1.30hrs/batch.
For the above mentioned, we can provide the following:
- Mention in all our printed publications
- Promotion through our website and Facebook page
- Mention of your organization during the event.
- Will provide a stall for you.
- More over, join the mission to spread the knowledge.
*Attaching the event brochure. Cc'ing Praveen Sridhar, who is in charge of
teaching stations.*
Expecting a positive reply,

Subject: Wiki Loves Earth winners in India
To: karthikndr(a)wikimedia.in, jayanta(a)wikimedia.in, arkrishna(a)wikimedia.in,
viswaprabha(a)wikimedia.in, nikita.sb(a)wikimedia.in
Dear Board members of Wikimedia India,
I am a member of Wiki Loves Earth international team, and I am contacting
you concerning the winners of Wiki Loves Earth in India.
The issue is that we are going to submit all national winners of Wiki Loves
Earth to the international jury pretty soon (approximately 10-15
September), and we still have no information about winners from India
(winners from other countries can be found here:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2014/Finalists ).
At the moment India is the only country without any activity: among
countries without list of winners there the Netherlands already have a list
of winners but just don't want to publish it, while Ghana already has an
active jury and will have their top-10 photos in just a few days.
Unfortunately, both organisers of WLE in India (
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2014_in_India )
seem to be inactive at the moment, and Clockery (main organiser) seems to
be a 14-year old girl who is busy at school and who can use only her
mother's computer, thus we are not sure she had really contacted anyone to
form the Indian jury.
Could you please do any of the following:
* try to reach any of local organisers (Clockery or Manojk) and help them
reaching jury members and organising top 10 selection. I do not know if you
have any contacts of these users however - they have not responded to our
emails, and I am not sure they are more active on their home wikis...
* find some people to form an Indian jury yourselves and submit top-10
Indian photos for the international contest. Given that India is already
very late, you can form a jury of virtually anyone who can evaluate quality
of pictures (even a group of chapter members would be fine)
* if you are lacking jury members - we may try to find some people to help
you (e.g. we can ask some Commons administrators or active photographers
who are not participating in the international jury). But please write us
as soon as possible if you will need some additional people for the Indian
jury.
In any case we hope that you will be able to submit winners pretty soon
(you have just 526 photos, not that great deal) - in at most a week, until
15 September - otherwise we may have to proceed without Indian images,
which will mean Indians will not be able to be in the international top.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Mykola Kozlenko (User:NickK)
