Hello all,
As some of you may already be aware, we are having our second Volunteer Strategy Gathering https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Volunteer_Strategy_Gathering/July_2015 on the 25th of July, the same day as our AGM.
It will start at 10:30 till approximately 3pm. Please come along and bring your ideas for how Wikimedia UK can work with its volunteers and community.
This is open to members and non-members alike.
Best
Stuart
Gordo,
Sorry, late reply. No, only the Volunteer Strategy bit is open to non-members. To attend the AGM you have to be a member.

Both events (Volunteer Strategy Day and AGM) we assume?

Hi Stuart & all,
The AGM has always previously been open to non-members: it's proven to be a good way to get new members from amongst the attendees of the surrounding event, and there's always been a (running) board meeting prior to the elections so that new members could be approved [1]. How come the change to a members-only AGM this year?
The AGM also used to take place in the middle of the day/event (normally straight after lunch), quite deliberately: it makes it easier for those that need to arrive late/leave early in the day to attend it (e.g., for long-distance travel); it meant that the AGM was time-limited by the demands of the AGM rather than an arbitrary time limit (e.g., the room booking ending); and it meant there was plenty of time to count the votes before the day finished. It's not clear why this has also changed this year to be at the end of an event instead...
Thanks, Mike

Hi Stuart
Sorry to contradict but that is not right. The AGM is open to everyone, and all are warmly welcome. Only members are entitled to vote, of course.

Thanks for clarifying that point, Michael. For the avoidance of doubt, my recollection from the past is that non-members have always been welcome to attend and listen, but speaking at the AGM as well as voting has been reserved to members. Is my recollection accurate?
Not sure how AGMs were deal with in past years, but allowing non-members to speak is at the discretion of the chair. Was not allowed last year, and this year may depend on time and context.
Best regards
Michael
