It has been suggested that the Wikimedia Foundation should contact the authorities of the Jordanhill railway station to request and/or offer to place a plaque at the station, in commemoration of the millionth English language Wikipedia article.
However, it might be better for the Wikimedia UK chapter to handle this than the Foundation. Any opinions?
If it was the Foundation, then it would likely fall under the remit of the newly created Special Projects Committee.

I've also put a note about this on the commemoration discussion page

I'll happily risk being the one in the corner no-one listens to here and state that, in my opinion at least, it sounds like a fairly cheesy idea and a waste of money.

My own view is that it is highly unlikely that we'd get an agreement to do this whether the request from from the Foundation or us in the UK, and that making a formal request that would likely be declined could even give us negative publicity.
Saying that though, there is an outside possibility that it might be possible, and it would make great press if it happened, so I shall make some sotto voce contacts with them next week to see how they might respond to an actual request.

Perfect ;-)
BTW, I'm unwell but I've managed to reschedule the BBC interview for 'Mousemat' to Wednesday or so. If I can't make it, would Alison be in a position to substitute? Probably Wednesday mid-morning. I'd finger James F. as a possible substitute too, but he'll be at work then.

As it turns out, I'm to be in England for a couple of days now and could likely do it.

Heh, steal my media opportunity, will you! ;-) I'll try to do it as I've been talking to the guy, though we could offer him you instead. I should be fine by Wednesday.

I assume that's a sofa with a commemorative brass plaque? :-)

Excuse me Sir, it's gold, not brass. My comfort is worth at least that.
