I would love to return to the OER conference, and I'll have time because my Jisc project will be over, but it's hundreds of pounds to send a volunteer and I've already had a turn. Hence my raising it here.
Simon, if you go to the Distance Education event, might you write up another of your excellent blog posts?

My contribution to OER13 was a presentation rather than a paper, and the slides plus audio are at http://repository.alt.ac.uk/2286/ (Freely licensed: ignore the Nottingham copyright statement, which is just part of their page template). A lot of people who attended EduWiki also attended OER13, and I think it's important that Wikimedia is visible there to remind the sector of our perspective and that we are involved not just in delivering content but in the issues of educational practice that also interested them. The people from academia who attend are the most receptive to Wikimedia and to open education/free knowledge in general. The topic of using open platforms to collect learning analytics is within scope of the conference, I think, so you may want to go to OER14 as part of your research, Simon. There was a lot of discussion of open access to research, and its importance to learners. The closing keynote was from the excellent Nick Shockey of the Right to Research Coalition http://www.righttoresearch.org/about/, (Nick also spoke at Wikimania this year). So the conference is a chance to influence people and to take part in discussions that affect a lot of what we want to do. Cheers,

I don't know..would it be good value for money for both of us to go? To my irritation, the conference fee isn't on the website at the moment and the OER13 site seems to be down so no reference there either.
Is anyone else interested in attending? I watched Martin's excellent presentation, I think if two people were attending we'd want to co-ordinate the contributions. Martin certainly has more experience in broad WMUK activities than I do, I'm not sure I'd be confident to deliver that material, someone else (or Martin) may be better for similar material, but I'm open to talking about coordinating if it's seen to be a valuable thing to do.

Simon, let's take this off-list and talk to Toni and Jon. I personally like a two-pronged approach (and if we're having a stall again it's good to have more than one person). Conference fee this year was 167 for early-bird booking, though accommodation is extra. So, not a hugely expensive event, but more costly than a lot of things we attend. Of course I'm happy to leave the decision to those who manage the money.

Related event that might be of interest to anyone in London (I'm considering going):
The Role of Open Access and OERs within Distance Education
Tuesday 15 October 2013, 12.30-2.00pm (lunch provided)
The Court Room, Senate House, London WC1E 7HU
This first CDE lunchtime seminar of the academic year will explore the role of Open Access (Licensing and Publishing) and Open Educational Resources (OERs) within Distance Education, focusing on the context of the University of London International Programmes. It will commence with brief presentations by Stylianos Hatzipanagos http://cdelondon.wordpress.com/2010/02/17/cde-fellow-stylianos-hatzipanagos / (Senior Lecturer in Technology Enhanced Learning, Kings College London) and Jon Gregson http://cdelondon.wordpress.com/2010/02/17/cde-fellow-j-gregson/ (Head of Knowledge Services, Institute of Development Studies), who will set out the related issues and opportunities. The seminar will then continue with an interactive session where participants can share their thoughts and experiences in groups and plenary.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness and understanding of what is possible, and identify next steps and actions that could be taken to improving our use of open access materials, including OERs, both within the University of London International Programmes and generally within the HE sector.
The organisers are currently in the process of gathering information from librarians and programme directors relating to existing practice around Open Access. Findings so far will be shared at the seminar, and there will also be an opportunity to discuss the questions raised and gather further information from participants.
