My contribution to OER13 was a presentation rather than a paper, and the slides plus audio are at http://repository.alt.ac.uk/2286/ (Freely licensed: ignore the Nottingham copyright statement, which is just part of their page template).
A lot of people who attended EduWiki also attended OER13, and I think it's important that Wikimedia is visible there to remind the sector of our perspective and that we are involved not just in delivering content but in the issues of educational practice that also interested them. The people from academia who attend are the most receptive to Wikimedia and to open education/free knowledge in general.
The topic of using open platforms to collect learning analytics is within scope of the conference, I think, so you may want to go to OER14 as part of your research, Simon.
There was a lot of discussion of open access to research, and its importance to learners. The closing keynote was from the excellent Nick Shockey of the Right to Research Coalition http://www.righttoresearch.org/about/,  (Nick also spoke at Wikimania this year).
So the conference is a chance to influence people and to take part in discussions that affect a lot of what we want to do.
Cheers,

I’m sure I’ll blog about it if I attend…I make no promises on quality though J

Might be informative to the list to see Martin’s comments on OER13 http://blog.wikimedia.org.uk/2013/04/open-educational-resources-some-reflections-on-oer-13/  I was actually looking to see if there was a paper too but couldn’t find it – Martin?  I guess I also wonder what you think about how useful attending was/would be?

Cheers

Simon

I would love to return to the OER conference, and I'll have time because my Jisc project will be over, but it's hundreds of pounds to send a volunteer and I've already had a turn. Hence my raising it here.

Simon, if you go to the Distance Education event, might you write up another of your excellent blog posts?

Two more items of news that may interest this list:

The Open Educational Resources conference will be in Newcastle in April and it has an open call for papers until November 22nd. http://oer14.org/ This is one of the focal points for the open education movement in the UK.

I gave a presentation and a stall there this year and my attendance was supported by Wikimedia UK: http://blog.wikimedia.org.uk/2013/04/open-educational-resources-some-reflections-on-oer-13/

International Open Access Week is from 21 to 27 October http://www.openaccessweek.org/events
