Congratulations, Richard! I'm sure you'll do a great job.
Can I clarify, this is a full-time permanent appointment?
Thanks Thomas!
As I understand it, I'm on a temporary contract until January 15. Details of the role are publicly available at http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Office_Administrator.

Ok, so you're basically being hired to work on the fundraiser. I guess the plan is to wait until the CEO starts before deciding how office admin will be handled in the long-term. Not long to wait for that now!

That's right.
Once we have a Chief Exec we will have a much clearer idea of how a number of roles which we've had in mind for some time will pan out. There will definitely be an ongoing need for some administrative support but not necessarily to this job description, hence us advertising a few weeks ago on a temporary basis.

Chris
Will this new official capacity as WMUK paid staff present any conflict of interest with Richard's current role as en.wp arbitrator? On Sep 1, 2011 7:47 PM, "Chris Keating" chriskeatingwiki@gmail.com wrote:

The only practical issues would be if an arbitration case came up that involved a board member, or a UK issue such as the British and Irish naming dispute. I expect Richard would recuse as Arb from such a case. But that's no big deal, lots of cases have an Arb or two recusing, one of the reasons why we have 17 Arbs is to allow for the possibility that some will need to recuse from certain cases.

Since this is an administrative role, I don't see a big problem. Having an arb as CEO or volunteer coordinator would be problematic. On Sep 3, 2011 9:25 AM, "Deryck Chan" deryckchan@gmail.com wrote:

As always, anyone who thinks I should recuse on an issue is welcome to ask me to do so, publicly or privately. If the request is made in good faith, I'll happily recuse.
In addition, the committee are aware of my new job, and have been for a while now - none have raised any objections, indeed, they've wished me the best of luck!
Regards?
