Lightning Talk - Open Call

Hi everyone, I would love to hear from you if you are interested in sharing a Lightning Talk as part of the planned community activity days in August. Maximum 5 minutes long, the range of topics is as broad as Wiki itself. We have confirmed our in person London location for the 12th and 13th August and it's great to be back at Newspeak House -Thank you Ed Saperia for agreeing to host us again. Recruiting for a Wikimedia Visiting Fellow for Climate and Environment

Dear all Wikimedia UK is excited to be partnering with the Global Systems Institute <https://www.exeter.ac.uk/research/gsi/> at the University of Exeter to recruit a Wikimedia Visiting Fellow for Climate and Environment. More details about the post and how to apply are on our wiki here <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Wikimedia_Visiting_Fellow_at_Global_Systems_I…>. The closing date is Sunday 3rd July. This is a one year paid role, with the possibility of extension subject to funding. It can be full or part time depending on the preference of the successful candidate. Whilst the location is flexible, it will be important to have a regular presence on site in Exeter. As such, we are focusing our search on people based within the UK. The role is based on the Wikimedian in Residence model, but in this case the postholder will be employed by Wikimedia UK and seconded to GSI. We are looking for someone who is passionate about science, and understands the importance of public engagement with verifiable information about climate and the environment. We would be very grateful if you could help spread the word about this opportunity, and of course to apply yourself if you meet the criteria. Wikimedia UK AGM on Saturday 9th July

Dear all I know not all of you are members of the charity but I just wanted to remind you that the AGM is happening online next *Saturday 9th July* from 10am to 12 noon. Everyone is welcome (whether you are a member or not) but you do have to register on eventbrite here <https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uks-2022-agm-tickets-348700531677> in order to receive the zoom link. Remember that you can post questions for candidates here as well, which you are encouraged to do. Voting packs will be sent by email to members tomorrow. We will be announcing our new Honorary Members at the AGM; but the Wikimedian of the Year Awards will be announced in person (all being well) at the Wikimania Community Days on 12th-13th August. Recovering Histories event: Women's, LGBTQ+ and Black Histories on 1st July

Dear all, Apologies for crossposting, please disseminate to interested colleagues in your networks. You are invited to join us on Friday 1 July 2022 (1.00 - 5.30pm) to take part in an event to promote Women's, LGBTQ+ and Black Histories on Wikipedia. This free event is the culmination of a student project which has seen the diversifying of Wikipedia one page at a time, and now it's your turn! “You and your students can dramatically affect the most popular and important reference work in the world” - Adrianne Wadewitz Full training will be provided, and you don't need any prior experience to take part. This is a hybrid event, so you can join in person at the University of Edinburgh, or online. Learn valuable new digital research skills (great CPD so ask your boss if you can attend!) which can then be applied by writing new articles of 50-100 words (or more) which we’ll publish by the end of the afternoon. These articles are drawn from a selection of tasks, encapsulating Scottish LGBTQ+ activists, professional women athletes, and Black campaigners, which will help address these under-represented histories. Hi all We sent an email to members about board recruitment for this year's AGM. The deadline to apply to be a Wikimedia UK trustee is this Friday 24th at 11:59pm. Here's the copy of the email that went to the membership: *Notice of Wikimedia UK’s Annual General Meeting**Saturday 9th July 2022 online* The next AGM for Wikimedia UK will be held on Saturday 9th July. As a member of the charity this is an important opportunity for you to have your say about how we work, influence how we are run and potentially stand for the board, so we would encourage you to attend. Introducing our new Volunteer Coordinator

Dear all I'm delighted to introduce Esma Gjertson, who has recently joined the Wikimedia UK staff team as our new Volunteer Coordinator. This is a fixed term post for a year and Esma will be working two days a week, generally on Thursdays and Fridays. Esma will be working on a range of things including Wiki Loves Monuments, Train the Trainer and driving engagement with volunteer grants, as well as seeding and developing new contributor communities within underrepresented groups. Esma has written a short blog post <https://wikimedia.org.uk/2022/06/our-new-volunteer-coordinator-on-engaging-…> to introduce herself. Hopefully there will be opportunities for you to meet her in person over the next few months, such as at the community activities being planned for Wikimania in August. Esma brings great experience in volunteer development and support, as well as in strategy and project management, but is new to the Wikimedia movement. Celtic Knot Conference, 1- July 2022

2022 AGM first formal email

Hi all The first formal email for the 2022 AGM was sent out to all members yesterday. It included details on how to propose resolutions <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2022_Annual_General_Meeting/Resolutions>, what we're looking for in the three board positions <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Board/Becoming_a_trustee> we have to fill, and the eventbrite <https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wikimedia-uks-2022-agm-tickets-348700531677?…> link. The formal AGM is separate from the community aspects of the day this year e.g lightning talks and awards. This means the meeting is much shorter, allowing you to have your afternoon free! As you may have seen from Natasha's survey emails, we will be having community activities later in the year to coincide with Wikimania. Rare disease editathon Cambridge 22 June - request for help

I have been asked to lead an editathon in central Cambridge 1300 to 1600 on 22 June. This is a closed corporate event, aimg to produce Wikipedia articles on a list of rare diseases, and will be attended by numerous scientists working on repurposing drugs for rare diseases (not these particular ones). We are also expecting some representatives of patient groups. Given the large number of people who will be editing, in teams, I'd be grateful for some experienced WP editors who could assist.
