Would you like to take a leading role as a trainer in the Wikimedia
movement?
On 4-5th July in Edinburgh we are running another session of our
established Train the Trainer course. The event is open to anyone who can
make a credible commitment to support Wikimedia UK training in future. We
are particularly keen to hear from people based outside of London and are
interested in supporting our training and editing events.
The workshop will be a chance to:
- Get accredited and receive detailed feedback about your presenting and
training skills
- Get general trainer skills which you can then apply when delivering
specific Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons workshops etc.
- Share your skills with others
- Develop the ability to help design a training programme that serves
Wikimedia UK in the long term
If you'd like to be involved, please register your interest here:
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Training_the_Trainers/July_2017_event
We will also be running a network event for all our Train the Trainer
'alumni' on 15th July in London.

Thinking back to the editathon we ran at the time of the last election,
there was quite a long wait until much in the way of new MPs were elected,
and by that time people were tired and/or enthusiasm had waned.
There will be a number of candidates for safe seats for whom we can start
draft pages in anticipation of their election being announced later that
evening/morning. If we could identify such candidates ahead of time, then
editors would have something worthwhile to do whilst we await the actual
constituency results.
By way of example, anticipating a very likely Labour victory in the 2016
Tooting by-election after Sadiq Khan stood down to become mayor, I started
an article on the Labour candidate:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosena_Allin-Khan
An AfD was started the next day, and the article was deleted:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Rosena_Allin-…
After she won, the article was reinstated. If I had just done that article
as a draft, there would have been no need for an AfD.

I'm looking at the feasibility of setting up a temporary office at Newspeak
House in London for the next 6 weeks for people coming together to work on
tech & democracy projects.
It might make sense to do a politics/elections edit-a-thon in the space at
some point(s) in this period. Any interest?

Hello Wikimedians, we are just trying to decide on some designs for T
shirts to order for the next year and I would like to get some feedback
from the community about what kind of designs they would like to see. At
the moment we are just doing Wikimedia UK ones, and I've mocked up a couple
of options, with the logo either in the centre or as a badge. Please tell
me which you prefer, if you'd like to see it in different colours, with a
different logo layout (e.g. with Wikimedia UK to the side of the logo
rather than underneath) or if you have ideas for different designs. All
ideas appreciated.
