Manchester Science Festival

Hello everyone, The Manchester Science Festival runs from 22nd October to 1 November. They are currently looking for people to run events, would there be anyone interested in proposing one? The deadline for doing so is 15th April <http://www.manchestersciencefestival.com/getinvolved/share-your-ideas>. As it's October, it could follow on nicely from Ada Lovelace Day. I think having a gender gap event would be a great way of getting involved with the festival Maybe there is the possibility of linking up with Manchester Girl Geeks? Hello all! I thought I'd send you a quick note to introduce myself, as I've just started work as Wikimedia UK's communications coordinator this week. I'll be helping to get WMUK's work noticed, improve its branding, create content and help build its relationships with volunteers and partner organisations. Before taking up the role, I was a freelance journalist and filmmaker working in London and Turkey, a community organiser on a South London housing estate, a researcher for a number of different human rights organisations and an English as a foreign language teacher in France and Spain. I have edited occasionally in the past and volunteered during Wikimania London 2014, so I am familiar with WMUK's work and some of its staff. It will be a real honour to work with them and you on improving a set of educational projects which to me are one of the most vital and significant achievements of our digital age. AGM to be held in Birmingham

We now need to find a venue, which I'll confirm asap along with timings for the day. Spy Week editathon 13 & 14 April

Dear fellow Wiki chums, *Apologies for cross posting* Just to make you aware that the next Wiki event we will be hosting will be for Edinburgh Spy Week 2016. Edinburgh Spy Week<http://www.spyweek.llc.ed.ac.uk/> itself has an exciting programme of events running from 10-15 April exploring the secret worlds of spies and espionage in fiction and in fact, that will see events on the history of secret services, on women in spy fiction, and on writing spy lives (including talks with the former Director-General of MI5, Dame Stella Rimington and a series of spy-themed films at the Edinburgh Filmhouse). [cid:image001.jpg@01D18C1E.915A5960] As part of Spy Week, Wikimedia UK & the University of Edinburgh’s Information Services are organising a Wikipedia editathon focused on Women in Espionage (Fact & Fiction) on the afternoons of 13-14 April 2016 near the other Spy Week venues (so you could those events in the evening afterwards if you liked) in Teaching Studio LG.07, David Hume Tower Building, George Square, Edinburgh. The aim of our Women in Espionage editathon is to add to and improve the coverage of individuals, events and resources related to women in espionage. The event is open to anyone who wishes to help celebrate women in espionage & spy fiction. Feel free to bring your own ideas & materials along but a hit list of articles to target & resources will be provided on the day as well as plenty of refreshments. This Wikimedia event forms part of Spy Week 2016 as a day of celebration which helps people learn about the achievements of women in espionage, inspiring others and creating new role models for young and old alike You can attend on one day or both days. Full training will be provided both days (if refreshers sessions are needed) and new editors are very welcome to attend if you want to bring a pal. If you are more experienced and have had Wikipedia training before, feel free to either start perusing the resources & editing immediately on arrival or arriving a little later to skip the training portion of the afternoon.
