The Conference Committee is seeking community input on the final decision for the location for the 2013 AGM. Two venues have been shortlisted - Lincoln College (in Lincoln) and The Lowry (Manchester).
I have set up https://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiConference_UK_2013/Venue, which gives all the information about the two venues that can be published. Please have a look at it and offer your thoughts on the talk page - we have set aside two to three weeks for discussion. We will recommend a venue to the board in time for the next board meeting (17 November). In the event that there is no consensus, the Conference Committee will make the final decision, but we would prefer the decision to be made by the community.
Sincerely,
Harry Mitchell

I would like to commend the board for at least acknowledging that there has been mistakes made. It may lack specifics but for me personally it is much welcomed shift in tone which is a start. I do think that pre-empting the review would be unwise but I do ask that the board publish the terms of reference for the review as soon as possible. We need to try to do this as open from the start and knowing the extent and nature of the review is key to achieving this.
I would like to echo the suggestion of an advisory or audit board. Its a suggestion that I had universal support on previous board. A lack of time has for the most part delayed this but I think its worth the board putting some time into this.

Tom,
Please re-read the statement.
The board:
a) acknowledges mistakes have been made
b) acknowledges that those mistakes have had a damaging impact
c) identified a process (the review) which will not only look closely at
what went on, but will produce "clear recommendations which will help us
follow best practice in every area of governance".
I think you bring very important insights which can and should help get
WMUK to where it needs to be. However I don't think you help people grasp
the importance of what you suggest when you take umbrage where it is not
necessary.
all the best

All,
Sue Gardner, from the WMF, is in our office today, along with a few others
(Garfield and Asaf from the WMF). She's keen to meet UK Wikipedians for a
drink - is anyone available for drinks in the Old Street area of London
this afternoon/evening? If so, drop me an email directly!

Hello everyone,
I just wondered if anyone else had heard of the Radio 4 comedy, Bigipedia?
Take a listen and see if any of it sounds familiar...

Is it now agreed that the London Wikimeet will be the time to celebrate
four years of Wikimedia UK (5th November 2008)?

Are there any funds to support a special meetup (Jon)? Is the current
default venue suitable?
There has been some discussion on the meetup page...

Good morning everyone!
If you have time do look at pages on the UK Wiki about the direction
Wikimedia UK's membership can take in future.
Here is the page<https://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/WMUK_membership_survey_-_suggestions_and_comm…>discussing
the kinds of things you think a survey to members should cover -
I'd like to get the survey developed soon so contributions made now would
be very timely, and I can put up a draft of the survey questions when I've
written for further comment.
Here is the page <https://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:RecentChanges> with
some initial thoughts on building a membership strategy - all comments
welcome, including links to previous meeting minutes or otherwise that you
think should be considered.
Many thanks,
