I heard an except from an interview with Jimbo on BBC London radio this
afternoon; paraphrasing, his attitude was because the name has been named in
reliable US sources, US editors will ensure it stays in enwiki.

Hi,
I remember someone telling me this a while ago, and seeing something
somewhere on the website, but what is the membership application process
for under 18s, I seem to remember parents have to sign off something
don't they? Just curious because I'm thinking of joining soon.

Hi,
I'm not a member of Wikimedia UK (because I can never find the money
when I think about joining), but I've noticed a lot of the events are
university things or museum stuff, I was wondering, are there any other
types of events, for example, I know the Dutch/German chapters run or
host the occasional Hack-a-Thon or meetups at other coding related
events. Do we do anything other than the GLAM or whatever it is?

Piggybacking on the Wikipedia workshops stuff,...
I've got an Australian university using Wikinews as a class assignment
for final-year students.
I could really, really do with an incredibly concise editing guide.
They're not showing a lot of 'clue' when it comes to markup, filling in
templates, and so. But, they're doing a reasonable job contributing
despite that.
Anyone point me at some documents I can get Prof. Blackall to tell them
are 'required reading'?

Hi,
Registration for this collaboration event at the British Library has
opened today and has yet to be promoted to the general public. Sign up
early if you would like to take advantage of full access to the
English and Drama unique collections (some of the archives suggested
have yet to be officially catalogued) with supporting advice from the
UK's leading curators and researchers who are eager to help improve
Wikipedia's (and sister projects) depth of coverage. Details at
http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Editathon,_British_Library
The event runs from 10am-5pm on Saturday 4th June and registration
will be limited to a maximum of 30. The event has been organized in
partnership with Wikimedia UK as part of our UK GLAM initiative. Your
comments for improvements or suggestions for alternative British
Library events are welcome on the registration talk page.

Hello all, the CRUK workshop run by Mike Peel earlier this year was such a
success that the Medical Research Council is asking for their own workshops
on similar lines. This is a call for experienced Wikipedians to help us
deliver them.
The MRC have offices in London, Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh. They may
well want workshops in all four locations, but for now we are seeking to fix
a date for an event in Covent Garden, London, with 12 MRC-funded scientists.
This will be a full-day event in June or July and I'm looking to finalise
the date soon, so we can book the room.
We're looking for people to:
* Present about basic wiki editing, article development and article quality:
there are existing materials to work from.
* Help audience members out one-to-one and answer questions.
* Help on-wiki, such as welcoming new users, keeping an eye on their initial
edits, and documenting what they get up to. This doesn't require travel to
the venue.
We'll be able to pay reasonable travel expenses for those that do attend.
Did I mention what fun it is to help someone take their first on-wiki steps?
As a result of talks that are going on, we can expect more workshops with
other audiences, so it would be really helpful to extend our roster of
volunteers. Reply in private email if you're interested, wherever you are in
the UK. If you're in reach of London, it would help if you tell me which
days/dates you're not available in June and July. Thanks in advance,
