Just thought Id let you guys know the response from the oxford flickr group was excellent. They are more than willing for me to use their images so long as i give the taker a heads up, and some are willing to relicense under cc by sa for and even had an offer for assistance on a tour guide. Given how active this group is, there may be possibilities of more work between us for the future with wikimaniaand i think this is a very healthy partnership. The thought crossed my mind that it might be worth getting in touch with the london group with regards to the wikipedia loves art venture. I will look towards doing this later today. Seddon

Go ahead. Seems like a good idea. You really don’t need to ask permission for such things.

Heya guys, Whilst looking for some interesting photo's I stumbled accross a flicker group from oxford, they are very active it seems, they hold meet ups and are looking into running an exhibition next year. I think that it is of vital importance that we get in touch with these people and see whether they would be interested in getting involved in some way with the wikimania bid. Vice versa it could worthwhile to see if there is anyway we can assist them with thier exhibition. I know we have alot on our plate in terms of getting up and running but I think that we have a damn good chance of a successful bid and I would like to get hold of as many opportunities. Sedddon

I just wanted to hear everyone's views about the role Wiki UK Ltd
played in responding to the IWF issues.
The general consensus among the Board was that we shouldn't really get
involved as we didn't yet have chapter status. Individuals were
encouraged to do what they could but the Board decided to stay stum
itself and leave David and others to take the lead. Is everyone
comfortable that that was the right decision?
Presumably once Wiki UK is recognised as the chapter you would expect
it to take more of a lead?
Thanks
It has come to my attention that the UK meetup pages are in pretty bad
shape. I have created a centralised UK page,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/UK where all UK meetups can be
properly documented. In addition, I get the feeling people miss out on
meetups simply because they weren't aware of it going on. Therefore, at the
bottom of the page, there is a list, where you can add yourself if you want
to be informed/reminded about meetups that are going on in the UK. Anyone
who organises a meetup should inform the people on the list. I suggest the
London central page create such a list as well, since London appears to be
the only place that has regular organised meetups.
Thanks,

Yes, but WMUK 1.0 was always very small and wasn't really noticed by
anyone (some in the media may have known it existed, but that's about
it). If WMUK 2.0 is as successful as we hope, people may well know a
little more about it and there will be a possibility of confusion.

Indeed, but there may well be cases where we want someone to speak
officially as a representative of WMUK and we need a policy in place
for how we handle that.
There is (or at least, should be) discussion going on on meta about
board election rules and membership. It's important for everyone to
contribute to those discussion - if you don't, don't expect anyone to
listen to your complaints after the fact! This particularly applies to
the board who all agreed to contribute to the discussion 3 days ago
and have been silent since - I know you're all working hard with other
things, but discussion takes time, we need your input as soon as
possible so people have a chance to reply. Decisions need to be made
sooner rather than later and there is a lot to discuss before we can
finalise anything.

So please get discussing!

We did a great job on this IWF thing. I did well on radio and TV (if I
say so myself) and the WMF spoke softly and pointed out a fascinating
assortment of big sticks in the background, and the IWF blinked.
*does victory dance on the skulls of the IWF*
I'd like to say, though, I need more backup in the UK ... people who
can go on telly at a few hours' notice, specifically.
This is very little-needed - the last round of telly was Jan 2007 over
the Microsoft OOXML thing - but when we need it, we *need* it. Missing
Sky News was not good.
Press, between Alison and I we coped OK. Radio, OKish. I missed doing
BBC 5 Live. More reliable contacts there would be nice.
But we need people in London who are confident they can represent
Wikipedia/Wikimedia and talk in soundbites on telly at a few hours'
notice. Anyone?
(Mostly the press job is very quiet. The routine call is typically
"Hello, I'm from the Hicksville-On-Sea local free sheet. An edit on
your site that was up for 1 minute said our town was 'a tedious
backwater full of chavs' and our mayor is very upset.")

Something like that. In a pinch they're usually happy with a good
landline, or (sometimes) Skype.

Well, of course. So much so, that one set of people I know who ran science
fiction conventions took to telling journalists who turned up at the door
expecting free entry that "you can pay just like anyone else". Then, when
the usual cliched rubbish about us "beaming down" etc. was published, my
friends could say "and we've got their money".
