I wasn't sure if I was "allowed" to make the unofficial bid official bid myself, but seeing as there are two other bids listed officially I thought we should not let it slip us by. :) http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2008/London is not very informative currently. I will try and add to it today - the Cape Town bidhttp://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2008/Bids/Cape_Town[1] has lots of sections and ideas to think about we can use ourselves. [2]
If I read the stuff on Meta correctly, we have nine days to make an official bid into the running, then until the end of September to finalise.
Let's do it people!

Yes please! London would be fantastic! :) I live nowhere near it, but anywhere in the UK for Wikimania would of course be excellent :P I'll try and help out too.
Good stuff. I too would love to have Wikimania in London; well as you say England - but if anyone has any alternate towns or cities then, go for it I suppose?

London would be fine for me. I live near Manchester, which would probably be more ideal for me, but London, I think would be more suitable for Wikimania. Also, there's the fact I couldn't really organise anything myself, but would be happy to help out elsewhere.
I'm not sure how long the blurb should be. I've written a bit, feel free to add or scrub :)
Someone add something about Wikimedia UK and get clues from the 2007 bid; I'm only going to be available by e-mail for the rest of the afternoon and can't edit.

Agreed, we should try and get Wikimania in London. It is a pretty good capital city as they go and I think we could find a place to have it with plenty of cheap accomodation nearby (what I mean is Travel Inns/Lodges and the like, which are pretty decent).
Having a chapter which should be pretty well established by then helps too.

Precisely. And there's not a whole lot we can do without a venue. Hence, I contacted a media relations officer at UCL who didn't know anything about it but I pointed her to the bit in the 2007 bid where they say they're keen. Fingers crossed :).

It would appear from the page history [1] that it was Alison W who contacted UCL, or at least it was she who reported it. Possibly she may have more details on who the key people are to talk to.
