Over the next three months I will be providing as many details regarding the wikimania bid as possible. The idea being that as events unfold with the bid, those involved with wikimedia uk can be kept informed as chapter support and involvement is key. Any tasks that need doing on and off wiki will be posted here as well, any time that be given to complete these will be greatful.
1) Bidding Date 2) Jury Announcement 3) Travelwiki content 4) Other Bids
1) Cary Bass recently moved the start of the bidding to 28th January so for the time being it seems thats the closest thing so far to having an official start date.
2) Several days ago the voting members of the jury were selected, along with 3 advisors from the foundation office and board and one moderator. The voting members are below. The full jury can be found @ http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2010/Jury
Ting Chen (Wikimedia Foundation Board - community elected member) Delphine Ménard (Wikimania 2005, 2006 & 2008 organisation, chapters) Samuel Klein (Wikimania 2005 & 2006 organisation) Austin Hair (Wikimania 2005 & 2006 organisation, chapters) Mohammed Ibrahim (Wikimania 2008 organisation) Frank Schulenburg (Wikimedia Foundation Head of Public Outreach) Teemu Leinonen (Advisory Board)
3) To assist in gathering information for the bid i suggest using content from the Travelwiki page on Oxford. Not everything on that page should be included in the bid, but alot of it is useful. As far as i am aware the GFDL allows CCBYSA contribs but not vice versa. Hence why info from Knol can be used on wikipedia but not the other way around. An attribution page will be created as well to ensure compliance. If someone wishes to check that my understanding of this is correct i would appreciate it.
4) Work on the other bids has now got underway. So far the two active bids are amsterdam and gdansk, the latter being created off site right now and i assume will be copied over. The amsterdam bid is someway off but the gdansk is practically complete. I have been told that the language of the bid is not a factor in the bidding process.
Hope this is helpful

CC-BY-SA text cannot be used on GFDL pages; the two licenses are incompatible. That's part of the reason why the WMF is currently setting up a poll about switching Wikipedia et al. over to CC-BY-SA (see the countless messages about this on foundation-l).
The only exception to this is that CC-BY-SA images being used to illustrate the articles are fine, as they're essentially a separate work from the article (i.e. the article text is GFDL, not the necessarily the pictures illustrating it)

Thanks for that clear up, i did some reading up and i now see that its the CC-BY license that is compatible and not BY-SA. _________________________________________________________________ Love Hotmail? Check out the new services from Windows Live! http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/132630768/direct/01/
