250 people (mostly German, Austrian and Swiss, but some others) recently met in Karlsruhe for the annual German-language "WikiCon" event.
Wikimedia Deutschland are quick to point out that, though they support the event logistically and financially, it's not their's but is community driven.
In contrast, how many people did we have at our nearest equivalent, the WikimediaUK AGM?
Wikimania notwithstanding, how can we get more people at our future events, and should we - from 2015 onwards - be looking at a similar annual conference, beyond (but perhaps containing) the WMUK AGM, of similar size, and which is open to all Wikimedians?
Has been a consistent ambition in all the draft plans e.g.2012 version. But we will get there. I hope that Wikimania will have an effect next year.
WikiConference UK
The Wikimedia UK Annual Conference and AGM has established itself as an attractive annual event that is well attended by existing WMUK members and a wide variety of supporting individuals and organisations. One year target
- At least 150 members and supporters attend the annual conference - either in person or remotely. - That the conference offers a wide range of speakers, workshops and activities. - That the conference either offers multiple tracks, or takes place over multiple days.
Three year target
- At least 250 members and supporters attend the annual conference - either in person or remotely. - That the conference covers a weekend with multiple tracks, and offers a wider range of speakers, workshops and activities. External guests are attracted. - That media attention increases.

If we are going to do something in 2015, it would be good to announce the date at Wikimania in 2014.

As I recall, it always was intended to be an "annual conference", rather than an AGM. I my view the "technical" business of electing trustees should be seen as a small part of the day/weekend.
2014 will be a bit of an exception as you might expect, I agree that in planning 2015, making an event with a theme to attract more general volunteers would be much better for supporting the society/network of Wikimedians (as opposed to just those wanting to vote, listen to hours of speechifying by board members, or promote the Chapter).
By the way, Jon's reply in this thread was a quote from a 2012 commitment https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/2012_Five_Year_Plan, which means that in 2015 the measurable target is to deliver an annual conference with over 250 attendees.
I cannot recall how many attended the Lincoln conference this year, does anyone have that number to hand?
