Save your energy; the impression I have been given by a number of people - obviously unstated in writing but quite clearly otherwise - is that we will not have a hope in hell of getting it, indeed 2008 is already "assigned".
Wikimania 2008 has not been assigned. Neither was 2007, despite the very unfair accusations suggesting Taipei won on location not merit.
Angela.
"Very unfair accusations", Angela? Are you referring to a precise person or what? It should be "fair" to be more clear.

Are you referring to a precise person or what?
No, I wasn't - just the general ill-feeling around the decision the jury made.
The criteria for bids is at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania/Judging_criteria
The jury for 2008 hasn't even been decided yet, let alone the location.
Angela.

I think it's starting to sound ridicolous to refer to the criteria, Angela. There are no "criteria" that can explain the choose of Taipei instead of another city. 'cause when people talked about "geographical turnation" as the main criteria, all the jury hurried to say "no, it wasn't". I can't - still now - find another concrete reason, and no one has been able to clarify it to me. I think quite noone has been satisfied of the "reasons of the choose" written in the official email. It didn't explain anything.

Rather than continue this argument to the ends of the earth and until the end of time, let me just say that I think the jury did a great job, that the competition was close, and that I for one, am quite satisfied with the reasons given by the people who made the decision.

What else could you say? "Figura da cioccolataio" is not-translatable, in english.

<quote> Rotation of location
whether the location is too close to Wikimania location in the preceeding years </quote>
That is to say, some thought was given to "not Boston" and "not Frankfurt".
