Hello all, the CRUK workshop run by Mike Peel earlier this year was such a success that the Medical Research Council is asking for their own workshops on similar lines. This is a call for experienced Wikipedians to help us deliver them.
The MRC have offices in London, Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh. They may well want workshops in all four locations, but for now we are seeking to fix a date for an event in Covent Garden, London, with 12 MRC-funded scientists. This will be a full-day event in June or July and I'm looking to finalise the date soon, so we can book the room.
We're looking for people to: * Present about basic wiki editing, article development and article quality: there are existing materials to work from. * Help audience members out one-to-one and answer questions. * Help on-wiki, such as welcoming new users, keeping an eye on their initial edits, and documenting what they get up to. This doesn't require travel to the venue.
We'll be able to pay reasonable travel expenses for those that do attend. Did I mention what fun it is to help someone take their first on-wiki steps?
As a result of talks that are going on, we can expect more workshops with other audiences, so it would be really helpful to extend our roster of volunteers. Reply in private email if you're interested, wherever you are in the UK. If you're in reach of London, it would help if you tell me which days/dates you're not available in June and July. Thanks in advance,
