Should we have a Lua love-in for UK geeks sometime led by someone who understands this?
Could be a jolly day?
Jon
Great idea IMHO. Plus, it could also be a useful starting point for creating a second not-quite-annual UK-based hackathon.

Sounds great, any volunteers to help organise / run this?

I was thinking the best thing to do would be to get some nice Foundation person who knows about Lua up on Skype/Google Hangout/whatever the ideologically correct equivalent is these days.
I'd like to get into doing templates and Lua stuff, but haven't precisely because template syntax is so ugly. Now we have an actual programming language that we can write the bulk of the complex template stuff in, I'd be interested in helping. Especially with things like getting proper unit testing going for modules.
I'm happy to help run this if there's interest and there isn't anyone better qualified to do so. :)
How many people would we get for this? I'd come right now, not having got to grips with Lua yet.
Ditto. It's something I definitely want to learn more about, and having a group event sounds fun.

Hey why not?
I think there is interest in this so we should think how and where we should advertise it. Obviously on the UK Wiki.
Not a huge fuss to do - someone to open the office on a Saturday?
Skype or whatever and lots of pizza.
Tom's offer is kind. Can you suggest a date?

I am surprised that Lua hasn't been taken on by more folks - doesn't anybody play World of Warcraft?
For the auto-didacts among you, I can recommend:

If no-one wants to attend both events, and the building has rooms to cope, then holding both this and the board meeting on the 11th May would be a great opportunity for synergy. Who knows, the following year you might get someone from the Lua event standing to be a trustee, or a trustee standing down to spend more time coding in Lua.

A good response here so I think it is worth doing - if only for the pizzas.
There are two people keen on it who will be trapped in the board meeting on the 11th of May so that is probably not ideal.

Well, just discussed with Katie Chan about this and pretty much any weekend is fine, although I'd rather avoid April 6/7 weekend.
Katie suggested 27 April or 4 May, which are both fine.
It'd be good to get some people along from London Lua: now we actually have a language that doesn't suck too much to do template stuff with, we might be able to get programmers to join the community to help do template stuff.
