Is this system working? Nothing has been added in the last nine days. Workshops I took part in during October should surely be added as a matter of course. What happened to Ada Lovelace Day?
Charles
It doesn't seem to be working!
We do ask that if you've taken part in any WMUK activity that you add it to the report if you're able. I'm not sure why that seems to have dropped off, but there have been plenty of reminders and calls for content. I'd be grateful that people do add what they've been up to and include ways for people to get involved too, if possible.
Perhaps there are people reading this message who have more to add?
Thank you,
Stevie

Perhaps because the "report" is a really dull surrogate for a proper newsletter, allowing the community an editorial voice? And contributing to our public life. Such as the Signpost. And instead looks like the fulfilment of a reporting requirement of a box-ticking kind.
Charles
I don't think it's a box-ticking exercise at all - the reports have been this way for a long time. Also, we want the community to have an editorial voice - that's why much of the content is written by volunteers and we encourage people to get involved (hence the reminders).
Could it be better? Yes, of course. If a Signpost-style production is your favoured option, let's take some time to sketch out some ideas. I've created a very basic page on the UK wiki for us to make a start. I'd encourage anyone with suggestions to get involved in the conversation. It's at http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/What_would_a_WMUK_Signpost-style_newsletter_loo...
Thanks,
Stevie

But it seems to work for the GLAM newsletter, where e.g. there is a 'UK report' with pretty much the same intent as the 'Wikimedia UK report'? http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Newsletter/October_2012/Contents/UK_...
Would a simple rename make people feel more able to contribute, or does there need to be more change than that?
Thanks, Mike

I was going to wait for other views. But the underlying, fundamental need is to have a vehicle for growing the involved UK community. Inviting brainstorming from this list misses that point, in my view. Those who are prepared to wade through the threads on this list are probably already quite involved. :Likewise those who are active on the GLAM front. The crying need is to get beyond preaching to the converted.

Would it be feasible to deliver a WMUK newsletter the way the Signpost is delivered, i.e. to subscribers' talk pages in Wikipedia (and perhaps other projects)?
The WMUK website and mailing list are a bit of a walled garden. Visibility of a WMUK newsletter on talk pages in Wikipedia and other projects might get new people involved.
