Just in case you weren't being funny, FTR. GB is
the ISO 3166-1 code
for the United Kingdom <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1> and
the other chapters are named per ISO 3166.
Yes, and that was ignored for domain names, so an exception for this
is entirely in line. (.gb is in fact inactive, according to this large
online encyclopedia I sometimes use.)
It's an organisation to be used by humans, so the name is a marketing
consideration, not an ISO compliance one.
