If you "curate" an en.Wikipedia page about place in the UK, and it appeared in the Domesday Book, please add the OpenDomesday template:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:OpenDomesday
to the external links section.
To test this, I added it to my childhood village here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Penn%2C_West_Midlands&diff=492...
It works brilliantly. Thanks very much for setting this up Andy - do OpenDomesday know we're doing it?

Thank you.
Yes; I'm in contact with Anna Powell-Smith, who spoke about OD at the Wikimedia-UK AGM and who set up the Domesday wikiproject.

Andy's note encouraged me to send off a bot to populate http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Geograph_images_of_places_mentioned_in_the_Domesday_Book.
The bot has only just started, it may take a while to finish! So don't go renaming the category or anything daft for at least a day, but just having this category might kick off some creative ideas.

Cool. How are you sourcing entries?

It's nasty and weak, I'm only picking up image pages that mention "Domesday Book". Luckily this seems to be quite a few, but in no way will be exhaustive or guaranteed to be fully accurate. It's a kick start only, hence leaving this as a hidden category for now. For those that know certain areas, this might be a good start for manual corrections, or to add similar information to related nearby photos that do not mention Domesday.
If there is enough interest, we could ask a bot writer to use a standard location list to add Domesday categories more widely to geotagged images. It would be beyond my current bot skills though.

NB that "Domesday survey" also works. (Not a synonym! Interesting but off-topic here.)

Fae,
Wouldn't it be more useful to categorise the categories rather than the images? Most of the individual images will be far newer than Domesday, especially those of trees and buildings. Plus the categories are rather fewer in number.

We have no deadline.
