Hello everyone,
I think there's enough interest confirmed to be able to deliver a session teaching people more about Wikidata.
The next step is to confirm a date. A Saturday is probably best for most folks and I'm happy to book a meeting room in the Wikimedia UK office. Once there is a consensus for a date I'll make the necessary arrangements.
There's also still plenty of time to register an interest in attending. https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Wikidata_training_2015
Thank you,
Stevie

Hi all,
Last year there was 2015 in public domain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_in_public_domain and now we have 2016 in public domain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_in_public_domain . . . but it only has one entry.
I would be interested to know if anyone else is interested in working on this and perhaps organising something for Public Domain Day https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Domain_Day , or perhaps an event later in January when people have recovered from the holiday.
Personally I am particularly interested in the work of the encyclopedist Otto Neurath.

There's 2087 entries on Wikidata for people who died in 1945 and have an occupation which is some kind of 'creator' (though due to a quirk of the Wikidata hierarchy, that seems to include scientists + engineers)
http://tools.wmflabs.org/autolist/autolist1.html?q=between%5B570%2C1945-01-0...
For authors + subclasses thereof it's a more manageable 636:
http://tools.wmflabs.org/autolist/autolist1.html?q=between%5B570%2C1945-01-0...
No major British names leap out from a quick skim through.
Andrew.

Thanks for that, Andrew.
Here some I picked up on (but there maybe othres): * Edward Prosser Rhys https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Prosser_Rhys : Welsh language poet
* Eoin MacNeill https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eoin_MacNeill Irish politician who had a significant role in the Easter Rising https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Rising and was subsequently MP for Londonderry City. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Londonderry_City_(UK_Parliament_constituency) Wrote academic works on history
* Lord Alfred Douglas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Alfred_Douglas LGBT interest, poet
* Thomas Burke https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Burke_(author) LGBT interest, wrote about East London, extensive bibliography https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Burke_bibliography I was thinking this could be an opportunity to develop interest in WIkisource?

I have added a new section to
https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Wikidata_training_2015
based on my discussions with the office. If you have already expressed interest, and would like to come on 24 October as now scheduled, please sign up again.
The start time is not yet set. If your attendance is conditional on it not being too early, write to me off the list and I'll see what can be done.
The planned training would amount to something like five hours.

Ah dear, will be working in Edinburgh that day I'm afraid! Hope it goes well.
