Hello everyone,
Just thought I'd drop a line to see if anyone has any recommendations for a pub near the Science Museum for everyone to retire to after the AGM.
I used to drink in the Hoop and Toy (a couple of minutes away) occasionally but reviews suggest it's gone downhill a little.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Stevie
I'm sure the Science Museum staff will know (scientifically and quantifiably!) all of the best pubs in the nearby area - try asking them for an expert recommendation? ;-)

Well as long as there's decent beer involved, I'm in.

Did I mention that one of my reasons to move here was the prospect of never drinking Australian piss lager *ever again*?
(so of course English people keep greeting me with Fosters. AAAAAAA)

To be fair to Aussie lager, it is abysmal.
Top marks to some of the fantastic wines from down under though, especially your awesome cabernets.

In Australia/New Zealand they taste lovely. In the UK, bleh.
My second favourite lager is Tui (from NZ). But if you buy it here it tastes like water...
Seconded on the Wines.

Some of it is actually nice - lager is almost all you can get, but there are tiny breweries that do stuff that verges on drinkable. The mass-market piss is piss.

None of these are actually worth the money in the UK because of the cost of shipping - for the price, you can get much nicer stuff from Spain, SA or Chile. A pity. Same for kangaroo meat.

Just don't mention the last Test series....

I think so - "any recommendations for a pub near the Science Museum for everyone to retire to after the AGM" - and I suppose if someone wants a post-AGM activity which involves tea and coffee rather than beer, this is the thread to suggest it! This meta-discussion about whether we're on-topic, on the other hand, isn't quite on-topic.
Back on topic: have we got anyone from ICL who can help? Is there anyone from the Imperial Wikipedians on this list?

I think it wins on a couple of counts - close to Exhibition Road, pretty cheap, likely to be fairly quiet, won't be full of students as it's for post-grads and staff mostly. Downside is it may be closed.

But it might be a bit too far away.
